The Wallabies named their 22-man team to take on the All Blacks on Saturday’s Bledisloe Cup clash in Brisbane… then changed it due to another injury.
Included in the run-on side is Adam Ashley-Cooper and Wycliff Palu, in place of the injured Digby Ioane (knee injury) and Radike Samo.
Out of the squad with a late injury is Saia Fainga, who was supposed to man the replacement hooker berth, he has been replaced on the bench by James Hansen.
Scott Higginbotham who came on as a replacement early in the last Australian outing against the Pumas slots in as a starter at blindside flank and Sitaleki Timani starts at lock, the position he moved to when Higginbotham appeared on the field for the injured Kane Douglas.
In the front row, there is some musical chairs with Benn Robinson getting a start this time round and James Slipper… slipping to the bench.
On the replacement bench, there is a five-two split between forwards and backs, to try and compete with the All Blacks strong forwards pack. In the backs Drew Mitchell regains a bench spot after a remarkable injury recovery, since he injured his ankle in the game against the All Blacks in Aucland.
Kurtley Beale retains his flyhalf berth for the game but Mike Harris also retains his fullback spot and will kick for goal after scoring a mighty 20 points in the 25 / 19 win by the Wallabies over the Pumas. Mike Harris was born in New Zealand and will therefore run out for his adopted nation against his birth nation at the stadium where he plays his Franchise Rugby for the Reds, Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane.
Nathan Sharpe, the wide-eyed Australian Captain who was convinced to stay his retirement in the interests of Australian and Wallaby Rugby, will make his 112th Test appeaarance for the Wallabies, the last Test match on Australian soil for him, seeing as the End Of Year Tour to the Northern Hemisphere should see him end his international career on foreign soil.
Wallabies: 15 Mike Harris, 14 Nick Cummins, 13 Ben Tapuai, 12 Pat McCabe, 11 Adam Ashley-Cooper, 10 Kurtley Beale, 9 Nick Phipps, 8 Wycliff Palu, 7 Michael Hooper, 6 Scott Higginbotham, 5 Nathan Sharpe (Captain), 4 Sitaleki Timani, 3 Ben Alexander, 2 Tatafu Polota-Nau, 1 Benn Robinson
Replacements: 16 James Hansen,17 James Slipper, 18 Kane Douglas, 19 Dave Dennis, 20 Liam Gill, 21 Brett Sheehan, 22 Drew Mitchell.
Expect the All Blacks to easily beat the Wallabies and go 17 in a row…. even with Steve Hanson not coaching this week due to his father’s death.
@ grootblousmile:
Yes, and then an “easy” (Scotland, Italy, Wales and then England) EOYT to smash the record?
