News yesterday was that the Southern Kings are eager to obtain the services of Blue Bulls and Springbok back JJ Engelbrecht.
Die Burger reported that the Kings are currently negotiating with the Bulls to lure the 23-year-old back to his home city.
Engelbrecht, who is highly rated by Bok coach Heyneke Meyer, was schooled at Grey High in Port Elizabeth before joining Western Province after school. He joined the Bulls at the end of last year.
His contract at the Pretoria-based union only expires at the end of 2013 though, so the Kings will have to fight to lure him to the Friendly City.
Engelbrecht, who can play either centre or wing, made his Bok debut against Argentina at Newlands earlier this year.
Today however Blue Bulls Barend van Graan refuted these claims, saying that JJ Engelbrecht is contracted till end of 2013 and that the Blue Bulls will under no circumstances let him go.
Similarly Frik Kirsten, who was interested to join Biarritz in France but still has a Blue Bulls contract for 2013 will not be released to go, specially since Rayno Gerber and Rossouw de Klerk have already been released and opted to move from the Blue Bulls. In fact the Blue Bulls have signed an additional prop in Marcel van der Merwe from the Free State Cheetahs to bolster their prop stocks.
What Heyneke Meyer saw in JJ Engelbrecht to make him a Springbok is not clear to me… so if he goes, it’s OK by me
see that goosen is going under the knife today
will be out for at least 6 months, which means that he will definately miss the EOY tour and a bit of the start of the superrugby season
I haven’t seen anything special from him at all.

@ grootblousmile:
JJ did a few good promising runs , he has that x factor , but why did HM use him one never knows. HM does not like individual brilliance. Mind boggling things by mr Heynecke de snor Meyer
