The convincing win of the Springboks on Saturday was followed by news on the injury front.
Most notably Francois Steyn, who rolled his left ankle last Monday morning, will have to undergo an operation to clean the ankle up and will be sidelined for 3 months recovering from the surgery.
“Losing Frans is a big blow as he is one of our most experienced players,” said Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer. However, it’s better that he gets the ankle sorted out properly as he still has a long rugby career ahead of him and can play many more Tests for South Africa.”
In addition, Coenie Oosthuizen’s “general stiffness” seems to be more than just that, as Dr Craig Roberts, medical doctor of the Springboks has decided to send Coenie for a second opinion to Durban, fearing that Coenie has not recovered fully from the neck operation.
“I’ve not been completely happy with his neck, as he still showed symptoms after having played in the Currie Cup last weekend,” said Springbok team doctor Craig Roberts. “We’re seeking another opinion as we need to make the right decision for his career. Coenie is a young player and potentially he has a long career ahead of him, so long term we need to make the right decisions and can’t put him at risk in any way.”
Jacques Potgieter who sustained a groin injury in the Blue Bulls game Saturday before last and who then pulled up during practise last Monday at the Springboks is also out injured and sent back to recover.
“Jacques could not train last week and we were hoping to get him ready for selection for this week, but he has not responded as well as we had hoped and subsequently it was decided to withdraw him from the squad as he would not be available this weekend.”
The result is that cover for CENTRE and for BLINDSIDE FLANK had to be called up to the Springbok squad as they prepare to meet the All Blacks at the Soccer City complex near Soweto on Saturday. Heyneke Meyer’s choice has fallen on Lionel Mapoe who has been doing sterling work at the Golden Lions in the Currie Cup and also on Arno Botha the exciting Blue Bulls youngster who covers both blindside flank and No 8.
Four other Springbok players were nursing game bruises following Saturday’s Test, with Zane Kirchner, Willem Alberts, Jannie du Plessis and Johan Goosen sitting out of training on Monday.
Zane Kirchner bruised his hip when Adam Ashley-Cooper’s head and shoulder hit him in that fateful crash which saw Adam Ashley-Cooper stretchered off, out stone cold. Johan Goosen’s bruised left heel was rested today as a precautionery measure, seeing as he was still suffering with it during the Test, he should be ready for the weekend though. Jannie du Plessis is nursing a bruised knee and Willem Alberts is nursing a sore hip after the massive tackles he put in on Saturday.
“Seeing that Willem is also not 100% at the moment, we only have three fit loose forwards in the squad and needed someone to provide cover at blindside flank and No 8, which is why Arno is coming to join us. He was part of our Young Guns squad in June as has been in our plans before,” said Meyer.
“Lionel has been in great form lately and apart from providing cover in the midfield, he can also be used on the wing if necessary.”
49 @ grootblousmile:
Sounds like a flipping nice piece of kit.
All that just to shoot aliens and stuff!
61 @ Scrumdown:
… and to suck zaber… of course… hahaha
@ Scrumdown:
Need an ISP that is big enough to build redundancy in their networks, and can offer decent levels of up time, and not take awhole day to fix mail servers. But boy being a big company, they are a nightmare to deal with. Call center takes ages to answer, VOIP cuts you off after a few minutes on line. Not a good start
63 @ Lion4ever:
Should have shifted to an International web host… better pricing too and far greater redundancy on their server structures.
If I may ask, what does MWeb charge you monthly, considering what you’ve gone for.
62 @ grootblousmile:
You tested it then?
65 @ Scrumdown:
No, I would never do that!
Hahaha
I’ve been thinking on giving out E-Mail Addresses for people here on R-T.
We have an unlimited amount of E-Mail Adresses we can give here… so it will typically be something like Scrumdown@rugby-talk.com or Lion4ever@rugby-talk.com or ashley@rugby-talk.com
What do you guys think?
@ grootblousmile:
R145 for 8GB per month, 1st year unlimited domain hosting free, and R19.00 per year thereafter. I free domain mail and R20 per mailbox thereafter. A little less than what we are paying for 5GB.
ADSL with Telkom.
India 112 / 5 after 16 overs
68 @ Lion4ever:
Not bad pricing… would just become expensive if you had mainy E-Mail Addresses
68 @ Lion4ever:
But don’t you still have to pay for your ADSL line anyway?
I have unlimited storage, unlimited bandwidth, unlimited e-mail addresses, 24/7 support, you can choose from UK or SA location for server and in the last 7 months have not had any downtime apart from planned maintenance which they told me about WELL in advance. E-mail quiries are answered almost immediately. I haven’t had to phone them yet so can’t comment on that. Cost is R 360 for the year.
@ grootblousmile:
Can have many aliases, but being a small company, not too bad.
68 @ Lion4ever:
I see your site’s Domain registrar is Uniforum SA…
India 139 / 5 after 18.3 overs
@ Scrumdown:
ADSL is one of my extentions. Not sure what the ADSL line rental is, but my Telkom bill is relatively low .
Cheers all. Gotta run. Just realalised I have a meeting about our golf tour tonight.
Chat “later”.
@ grootblousmile:
Not a bad idea. Always good to have a couple of mail addresses handy.
@ grootblousmile:
Ok, so I thought Webnow had registered the domain name? And the handover to Mweb was being handled between the 2 of them? Where do these new guys sit in the picture?
India finishes on 152 / 6 after their 20 overs.. run out from the last ball
79 @ Lion4ever:
Your DNS Servers still point to Webnow… maybe Webnow used Uniforum SA to register your Domain in the middle of 2008
Now can SA chase down that score?
@ grootblousmile:
Sounds about right in terms of registration.
83 @ Lion4ever:
29 May 2008 to be exact
Got to run. Chat in the morning
83 @ Lion4ever:
Your Domain Servers need to point to MWeb’s Servers before you will be able to use the new E-Mail stuff, the web site contents will have to be transfered there completely too… then propagation starts and that takes 48 hours or so.
Amla out first ball.
SA 0 / 1 after 0.1 overs
India needs to limit SA to 120 runs or under to qualify to go through
SA 40 / 2 after 5.3 overs
SA 46 / 3 after 6.1 overs
