The team to tackle the Cardiff Blues, on 4 August 2012, in honour of Grey College founder Sir George Grey, and in the process to prepare for the Currie Cup of 2012 has been announced. According to the Volksblad, backline coach Hawies Fourie, is using the match to decide on who his 1st choice inside centre should be.

The Team:

15. Hennie Daniller, 14. Philip Snyman, 13. Robert Ebersohn, 12. Barry Geel, 11. Cameron Jacobs, 10. Riaan Smit, 9. Pieter van Zyl, 8. Davon Raubenheimer, 7.Lappies Labuschagné, 6. Kabamba Floors, 5. Izak van der Westhuizen, 4. Andries Ferreira, 3. Marcel van der Merwe, 2. Adriaan Strauss (Captain), 1. Trevor Nyakane

Replacements: 16. Hercu Liebenberg, 17. Ross Geldenhuys, 18. Waltie Vermeulen, 19. Frans Viljoen, 20. Sarel Pretorius, 21. Sias Ebersohn, 22.Andries Strauss

Welcome back to Kabamba “Karamba” Floors, and Frans Viljoen! Considering that Coenie Oosthuizen, Rayno Benjamin and Johan Goosen are still recovering from their respective injuries, this is a good team to kick off with. Frans Viljoen in particular could provide the abrasive edge the Cheetahs need in the pack.

If  Heinrich Brüssow, remains outside the Bok training group, the Cheetahs will have a very good loose forward pool to pick from, as Boom Prinsloo, and Phillip van der Walt are also in the mix.

Replacements need to be found for WP Nel and Izak van der Westhuizen, who have both decided to continue their careers elsewhere. Maybe it’s time to look at young Charl Marais, as apparently Ross Geldenhuys, and Pieter Stemmet didn’t really impress against Griquas.

That looks like quite a strong team Cheetah4eva, they should be too good for Cardiff Blues who are just starting back after end of season break and anyway only ended up mid table in the Pro12 last year and have some of their best players missing. Don’t know if you’ve seen the ‘boerseun’ Andries Pretorious who is Blues eightman was born in Nelspruit, I would guess it was at Rob Ferreira hospital.

    @ Bullscot,

Yes, I saw that he matriculated here, but I have no idea where he was born. In those days Rob Ferreira was one of the best training hospitals in SA. Unfortunately, it is no longer the case.

The Bulls have a stiff opener in the CC against Griquas. Luckily it as at Loftus. Seems the Griquas have imported some ex Bulls players. He might be a tad long in the tooth, but JP Nel, can still crash tackle lol.

    2 @ Cheetah4eva:
Ag thats a pity about Rob Ferreira, my sister actually did some of her training there, also unfortunately had to go there many times to vist sick folk over the years too but as far as these places go it didn’t seem a bad one.

    2 @ Cheetah4eva:
Seen the Griquas squad Cheetah so will be a tough one but also just seen we Bulls beat Lions in our friendly match tonight and that with a team with a lot of the youngsters in against Lions team that had loads of Super 15 players. Plus if many of the ‘experts’ on the web get their way their won’t be many of our Boks announced in the squad tomorrow so that could help us too Wink

    4@ Bully,
Yes, the Bulls have incredible depth, but I sometimes wonder why the cling to some od ands when the young talent offers so much?

Surely Arno Botha offers more than Dewaldt Potgieter?
The Bulls have so many exciting backs, but will Wors Greyling, Chillipop, and Werner give thepm the platform required?

It’s going to be an interesting CC

    7 @ Pietman,
Looking to the future, surely a combo of van Zyl, and Goosen would be better. Sareltjie’s pushing the ages at 28, ditto Jano.
