Puma flyhalf Juan Martín Hernández will miss the game against South Africa next Saturday in Mendoza. He suffered a five-millimetre groin tear during today’s training session, the Argentine Rugby Union announced.

SuperSport

This is a big blow for Los Pumas going into the second round of The Rugby Championship.

His replacement, and the composition of the reserves bench, will only be confirmed on Thursday after the team flies in to Mendoza.

The new absence of the former Sharks’ player comes after his return to test rugby following three seasons in which he played no tests because of two mayor injuries that require a knee reconstruction and a back operation.

The likely replacement for Hernández should be Santiago Fernández moving in to No 10, from No 12, to the position he occupied in three Rugby World Cup 2011 games. This might also mean a rejigging of the back line, with Martín Rodríguez, who was to start at 15, moving to inside centre and Lucas González Amorosino, who had been dropped at fullback, returning as fullback to the starting side.

    Geez. Mud slinging.

Well I for one can hold my hand up and say I have NEVER reccommended ONE Lions player because of where he plays!

Sh1t I’d have to be a moron to do that.

    Dead right Kickers.
Nothing wrong with a good dose of provincincial, in fact SA rugby was built on it, and long may it continue!

My 10c worth re “the game plan”.

Unless SOUTH AFRICA changes the style of play that 90% of our provincial teams emply we WILL NEVER consistently beat the NZ and Aus teams IMO.

I doubt that HM can change the game style of the Boks, purely because all creativity has been coached out of the countries top 500 players A LONG TIME AGO.

Unfortunately the SAFFA way is brute force and ignorance (for the most part). Slight of hand and guile can’t be taught to players at a couple of training camps, it has to be ingrained as a culture over many years.

I sometimes think that the ANZAC tight forwards have better offload skills that our three quarters.

    Overjoy
Yes, what the hell…. and CAO farmers still breed the best lamb in the country although they have only delivered Vlokkie Cilliers in terms of rugby production, so what! To each his own…
I see it is now called ‘Diamond class Karoo lamb’, by the way….hmmmmm, mouth watering, braavleis, rugby en dop.

Hello all, know its a bit off topic here but if any of you were planning on spending the day watching the first one international tomorrow you may need to find something else to do. Would have been better for them to have played in Cardiff yesterday and even today (only few showers lurking about) but tomorrow’s gonna be a bit damp and breezy, if they do get a game completed it should be a much reduced one, am not sure how many overs need to be completed to make it a game but at this stage have my doubts there will be a result.

    @ Piet-Springbok-Jan:

Haha I did too mind you. Back then there was none of this K53 nonsense. The Oom just drove around with me for a while and then said “ag seun, ek kan sien jy ry al lankal. Kom ons gaan terug”. All I said was “Ja Oom, dankie Oom.”

I grew up around that part of town, when you could still walk around as a 10 year old in total safety, I used to walk to my grandparents after church (we always finished early), and they would make me breakfast and then my parents would fetch me when they were done. The large Telkom tower now stands where their house was. Good memories.

Without going into too much detail regarding your further options mentioned… I just want to stick briefly at the flyhalves… and maybe one or 2 others…

We have some serious talent rising there… not only Johan Goosen. I am impressed by young Handré Pollard and expect big things from him at the Bulls, and by the same token the young Affies player, Ryno Eksteen, who has signed at WP from next year is also a match winner of note. Have not seen too much of Fred Zeilinger… that’s the young WP schoolboy who has signed on at the Sharks… not so?

Pieter Rademan I think is going to play big rugby one day… he is the grandson of my dad’s family doctor of years ago in Kroonstad (Dr Piet Rademan), if I’m not mistaken.

I remember when I was young, Dr Piet Rademan was quite a character, a good doctor and typical straight-shooting Vrystaater… he (Dr Rademan) used to tell the story of a patient coming to see him for the treatment of some venerial disease, claiming he had picked it up on a toilet seat…. Well the good old Doc then asked him who he SPYKERED on that toilet seat… hehehehe
