I think this game will show us a lot about both teams, the Lions organization is a bit of mess right now, with the coaches fired, Josh still playing but no longer as captain and so forth. I think this will have one of two results, either the players are going to respond very well, as there appears to have been a difference of opinion between the old coaches and the players, but now the players are more relaxed, and maybe Josh will feel more comfortable without the pressure of captaincy, OR it can go totally the other way, and it all falls apart.
The Cheetahs can be a very frustrating side, in the Super 15 they lost quite a few games they should have won, and even when they lost it was normally by a small margin. I don’t know if they lose focus for 10 to 20 minutes or what it is, but it will be interesting to see if they hold their concentration for 80 minutes.
Loss of players to the Boks sort of evens out with Jantjies and Strauss.
If both teams play to potential should be close, with Lions maybe having the slight home advantage, but they must be careful with discipline especially Derick Minnie, who tends to give away a lot of penalties. We saw last night how ill discipline cost Gqiquas dearly, of course the Bulls won by 15 and deservedly as they were the better team on the day, but giving away 21 points in penalties did not help Griquas at all.

    2 @ cat66:
    Welcome to Rugby-Talk Catman!

I see you got in after our telephonic discussion.

After speaking to Johan Ackerman (after John Mitchell was suspended – at the Bulls Lions game at Loftus a few weeks ago), he was very positive and comes accross much more in touch with his players compared to the rigid John Mitchell.

Was difficult to pick on SuperBru for this game indeed.

Suppose I better get to Editing the Audio streams (and place them here on R-T in some comprehensible form) I captured of last night’s Press Conferences after the Blue Bulls / Griquas match…

Afternoon all, missed the match last night – back on pizza duty, so looking forward to some good rugga today. However the weather down here is just appalling, gales, rain, sleet, hail and freezing., so not sure what today will bring at Newlands

    6 @ Just For Kicks:
    Hello,

You going to Boolands for us, I saw your name on the Seating Plan for the Press Box?

  • 8

@ grootblousmile:Just phoned Malcolm and cried off. I got to the top of the mountain, and the weather was so bad, and the wind so strong and the roads flooded, it was not worth the risk, so turned around. Now have a blazing fire in the sitting room, wind shut out, soft sofa, and bigger bag of biltong than the measly one they give us at Newlands – the only thing I am missing is a beer, and we can blame bloody Dukkan for that!

    8 @ Just For Kicks:

Will you still handle the Game Thread for us or should I take it over?

Fark, you still on that farktup diet? Beanie must be smiling by now at your lean mean new bod!

Gone big on the Cheetahs for this one, felt that possibly the Lions re-structuring may not be quite up to scratch yet. I could be wrong though, and happy to eat humble pie if so.

By the way, missed a bit, why is Josh Strauss not Captain? Stepped down, or pushed?

Evening all, JFK’s comments just affirm why I Love the Slowveld!
Here is to hoping Plonker doesn’t bugger up a potentialy good encounter again with his over zealous phweeee shooter! He seriaaasly Stormered the game in Eliis Park. I lost interest after the umpteenth penalty, at a steady rate of a pee every two minutes!
    Go Cheeeeeetahs!

  • 12

@ grootblousmile:I’ll still handle it, won’t shirk my duties. Bean and half of Elgin!!! – I wish!

  • 13

@ Cheetah4eva:Yup, Gooooo Cheetahs – really rooting for them to do well in the comp – would be happy if they could go all the way!

    10 @ Just For Kicks:
