Steyn will take anything, that is when he makes his most runs, when he starts so bad

  • 63

SA 250/7 after Steyn hits the last ball of the Sally Broad over fine down leg for 4 runs. 1st target accomplished

  • 64

Philander must not lose form now, he gets a single too early

  • 65

Nice end to a disastrous day

  • 66

    South Africa 262/7 (87.4 ov)

    England

South Africa won the toss and elected to bat

    Stumps – Day 1

  • 67

Steyn and Philander played the light game to perfection there, and have finally been allowed to leave the field of play.

    262/7 End of day 1.

  • 68

OK the 270 is now near, now we can try and go for 320 and if we make it to 350 , i feel we will be back in charge.

    67 @ Just For Kicks:
Hell, I’ve missed an eventful day… the cricket, the Lions / Kings news, Spoony out of control… hehehe

  • 70

Interesting day, wrong choice to bat first, but by no means Smiths fault, conditions changed suddenly. Early wickets through a few poor shots, some good early bowling and shoddy umpiring saw SA lose 5 wickets in the first session. The middle order have done well though, the last 4 batsmen putting on 170 runs for the loss of 2 wickets in the next 2 sessions. As soon as the ball got a bit old, England weren’t able to capitalise, and they are so obvously a bowler down, not having Pietersen in the team, and having to turn to Trott for his slow lobs.

All in all, Englands day, but they won’t be happy not having managed to get the Proteas out for under 250. Tomorrow the boys need to bat as long as possible and get to as close to 300 as possible to make sure that they can at least save this game

  • 71

@ grootblousmile:You have, its been interesting to say the least!!!! By the way, I haven’t heard anything from Colqhoun, so I guess Saturday is off

  • 72

Boots and All should be interesting tonight!

  • 75

Cheers all, outta here to. Will catch up tomorrow

  • 76

Hope we can hang in there and get over 300 actually 350 would be great.

    Go Proteas.

  • 77

A really good comeback from the middle order yesterday, seems like the England bowlers exploited the conditions really well in the morning, and also got the bonus of the big wicket of King Kallis but I guess these things happen. Finn’s 3 wickets must surely further highlight the folly of the England selectors to not pick him for the first test. Hopefully the last few batsmen can dig in and ride out what will be testing conditions for batting early on and at least give themselves something to bowl at.

  • 78

Its a bit of a difficult one because we are now relying on and hoping that lots more runs come from the guys who will have to come out firing with the ball at England as well, hopefully they won’t have tired themselves out too much, plus the bowlers will probably toil in the humid afternoon, not ideal but I suppose getting the extra runs on the board now is more important than being concerned the bowlers may not be at their peak when England bat, Hopefully we can get a good score and then bowl England out soon so we can be batting during tomorrow, tomorrow looks like it will be a tough slog for the team who is out in the field in the heat, but maybe if it’ still humid enough it could assist the bowlers a bit.

  • 79

Funny game cricket, most of the top class batsmen go cheaply, Duminy plays very well then gets out to a really stupid shot after playing so well for so long. Kudos to Philander, nothing very classic, but sensible and gutsy. Fact remains we are now relying on our bowlers to be batsmen, which is very unfair to them, puts huge pressure on them. Batsmen are picked to bat, bowlers to bowl, although must admit some really kak umpiring decisions

  • 80

@ cat66:We haven’t seen it for a few years, but we used to rely on the bowlers being batsmen in many a game, especially in Aus!!!

  • 81

    79 @ cat66:
There was some really unfair umpiring decisions yesterday especially for Kallis. That was disgraceful actually as they went to the tv ref there. He had it right infront of him to look over and over and still got it wrong. Have no idea how he could have given Kallis out.

Hope now we turn this around and bat for as long as we can today. Dale can bat some. Remember he stayed with Duminy in that Melbourne test? Think Dale got 72 that time.

Go Proteas. We win this or draw this test we go to number one. Let us do it. Go get em boys!

  • 82

Play on Day 2 not underway yet?

    82 @ grootblouBokJan:
    No starts 12pm our time.

    83 @ PumaSpringbokJan:
Flok, so they only work halfday there in Pomerania!

  • 85

ek lees op news24 frans die white buffalo en sonny bil gaat in november boks, sal nogal interresant wees om te sien hoe sonny bil vaar teen n bokser wat darrem n halwe reputasie het vaar

  • 86

So, some overhead conditions this morning to help the poms, and forecast is for it clear up this afternoon. Do we get out quick and exploit the cloudy conditions, or stay in and rely on the pitch later on. For me, I say, bat as long as possible, and try to get to 320 odd.

  • 87

    @ smal jan planne:
Frans Buffel moet bietjie wag, laat Frans Steyn eers vir SBW klaar moer.
(Jy daai Tyson/Botha fight gekyk, 1999? Witbuffel het hom lelik ge-rattle gehad op n kol, maar toe haak Tyson hom in die 5de, KO.)
Lekker rugby gespeel ook,die Buffel,op Witbank.

  • 88

It will be good to see Anderson and co. give Steyn a bit of a work over here, just to fire him up a bit for his turn bowling. Nothing better than to see Dale Steyn in a foul mood!

  • 89

For anyone else who wants their own blood to boil, read this racist rubbish from a so called ‘political editor’ from one of the top UK newspapers. Read the comments to, at least not all poms think the same. – http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/cricket/9477566/Englands-South-Africans-are-on-a-sticky-wicket.html
