In a major boost for Cheetahs Rugby, high profile stalwarts of the Cheetahs have committed themselves to the Cheetahs till the end of 2014.
Both Strauss and Oosthuizen had received lucrative offers elsewhere but have chosen to remain with the Cheetahs. This will further strengthen Naka Drotske’s hand in retaining more of the Cheetahs players.
Both of these players are in Bok coach Heyneke Meyer’s plans, so they should not see much Currie Cup action but they will, bar injury, be available in the latter parts of the Currie Cup and crucially for next year’s Super Rugby tournament.
Great for the Cheetahs.
VRYSTAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT!
Good to see at least one of the smaller SR Franchises can manage to hold onto their players. Not like my favourite bunch of shamateurs in New Doornfontein.
Time for another revolution in JHB?
@ Scrumdown:
Scrum, have you heard anything from them that you can share with us?
4 @ Lion4ever:
We should have some clarity around 16 August somewhere
@ Lion4ever:
I’ve heard nothing. In fact the silence is deafening.
It seems to me like the GLRU have regressed.
No communications with the media that is worth anything, firing by e-mail (nobody could get the fax to work), the “head coach” is the only coach, with no announcements on the way forward, and the most successful captain they’ve had in the last 5 years has been relieved of his responsibilities.
Kdk has been VERY disappointing as the head of a major Provincial Union and the Exco’ that he has with him has done ABSOLUTELY F-ALL to improve things.
The Provincial department of Sports and Recreation don’t want to even see the Lions after a member of the Exco’ basically insulted them all in a previous meeting, and a number of the clubs are shouting that change has to happen again.
All I can say is that they (the GLRU / Lions (PTY) LTD) deserve their success.
lekkkkker
@ Scrumdown:
Sad after such a promising start. KDK seemed to be saying and doing the right things. Do you think that there may be a palce revolt underway?
8 @ Lion4ever:
All I can say is that the rumblings are getting louder, and that casual conversations on how to extract the union from the current situation have taken place.
Nothing too serious yet, but I’m sure that as the season wears on they will become more so (serious I mean).
Sad, sad sad.
