Good news just in, Johan Goosen is set to return for the Free State Cheetahs in early September.
Goosen, who proved to be a revelation at flyhalf for the Toyota Cheetahs in the early part of Super Rugby, injured his shoulder whilst playing against the Highlanders in late April.
He will miss the first few rounds of the Currie Cup, but should be back in time to play against the Sharks or WP the following week.
Waratahs scrumhalf, Sarel Pretorius, is due to return to the Free State Cheetahs for the Currie Cup.
Howdy Loskoppie,
Good news indeed, I am glad that the Cheetahs medical staff, are taking the conservative route with the rehab of Goosen. Even though the Boks are facing a shortage, it is better to let Goosen recover properly. It’s not like Meyer is going to rush him into the trenches in any hurry.
He might feature on the year end tour. The Goose is a cut above any current provincial flyhalf, and despite the numerous armchair critics saying he needs a full season of Super rugby, before being promoted, I believe he is good enough, and mature enough.
If you can dominate in Super rugb in your 1st season, you are good enough.
@ Cheetah4eva:
Hi
Is there any news on Coenine?
My understanding was that it was only swelling, and the estimate was 2-3 months, so he should be ready to rumble mid Septemeber too. But as much as we miss him, I have been impressed by Nyakane and van der Merwe. Don’t know much about the new signing Stemmett, nor the form of Ross Geldenhuys, but our main area of concern imo is lock and a back up 10.
Lots of loosies available for the CC, with Floors, and Viljoen back. Naka can pick quite a good team.
Props: Nyakane, vd Merwe, Stemmett, Geldenhuys, Oosthuizen
HkR: Strauss, Liebenberg, and PW v Vuuren
Locks: Ferreira, Walti Vermeulen, Uys (We are so thin here)
LFwd: Brussow, Floors, Labuschagne, Boom Prinsloo, Frans Viljoen, Raubenheimer, Phillip vd Walt
SH: Sareltjie, van Zyl, de Bruyn
FH: Goosen, Ebersohn, and Smit
Centre: Strauss, Geel, Ebersohn, Snyman
Wings: Jacobs, Benjamin, Burger, Ulengo (when released from 7’s)
FB: Daniller Scheepers
Super Sareltjie and the Goose are going to make a tremendous difference to your team. Looking forward to seeing them in action
Freestate must just learn to tackle for 80 minutes.
