SARU have promulgated a new regulation to ensure that the contracting of promising schoolboy rugby players is done above board.
SuperSport
From now on, if a union wishes to contract a schoolboy rugby player, it will first have to inform the boy’s home union, being the union in which the schoolboy plays his rugby, with the proviso that the schoolboy is willing to negotiate with his home union.
The object is to give the home union a chance to offer the boy a competitive contract.
Unions are allowed to contract players only when they are over the age of 18 but they are allowed to offer academic bursaries to boys between the ages of 16 and 18.
SARU has also decided that recruiting of players at national rugby weeks, including Craven Week, are forbidden. No person, union or agent is allowed to make any offer to schoolboy players during the week of the tournament.
This clearly does not apply to the many other tournaments before the national weeks which have been fruitful recruiting ground for gathering young players, even those still at school and who are then transported to northern climes.
The southern unions have been especially fruitful for northern unions in search of black and coloured players.
I personally think this is a good and positive move…
Hell, I’ve praised SARU…. phweeeew!
Just noticed the logo, it looks like the Springbok is being eaten by an oversized Venus Flytrap. The designer of that one should be shot!!!
This will save the VRYSTAAAAAAAAAAAAAT from the fukken poachers.
#3 @ Loosehead,
The evil, devious scoundrels will just circumvent that by bribery and corruption, but we have survived their onslaughts before, and with Toyota, we can even recruit some of their talent.
Problem is the opposition, can’t grow talent at all
wonder whether the fall-out between the blue bulls rugby union and a certain school in malmesbury had something to do with this …. hmmmm
@ Cheetah4eva:
So daar is werwers en beslis nie net by Grey of die Staat nie.
#8 @ superBul,
Don’t know what the regulations are, but it seems to be aimed at the Unions contarcting boys at school. Most of the young stars at Grey, head there when they start High School. They might lose a player here or there, but at the end of the day it’s swings and roundabouts.
Cheetahs rugby lose more Grey players than they hget to use, so this might be a blessing in disguise. Imagine if the Cheetahs had firts option on the likes of Dries Swanepoel, Jan Serfontein, Small-Smith, Lindeque, Paul Jordaan ets. Problem is, they are all promising centers, and again we can’t accomodate them all.
The Cheetahs and Lions are the place to be, if you are a backline player lol
