As reported last week, the IRB Junior World Rugby Trophy (JWRT) is currently taking place in Salt City,Utah, in the USA.
The third and final round of games in the pool stage of the tournament are scheduled for today, Tuesday 26th June. These games will take place during the night SA time.
Current leaders in Pool A are USA who are unbeaten. The same is true of leaders of Pool B, Japan.
Following the conclusion of the pool stages the tournament will go into a series of knockout games to determine the final positions of the various teams. These games take place on Saturday 30th June.
The final will be contested by the winners of each pool.
At this stage it looks as if the USA are the favourites from Pool A to play in the final.
In Pool B it is perhaps a little less clear cut at the moment as to who will make the final. Japan and Georgia, who meet later today, are only separated by one point after the first two rounds of matches.
The big prize for the winner of JWRT will be entry into next year’s IRB Junior World Championship to be held in France. This will be at the expense of Italy who will be relegated to the JWRT as the team who ended last in this year’s Junior World Championship, recently completed in Cape Town.

It is interesting to note that various players in the Zimbabwe squad are listed as playing their rugby in South Africa, with Pretoria University and Harlequins, KZN providing seven players between them.
USA 10-5 Russia after 20 minutes of the Junior World Rugby Trophy pool stage match
Earlier results: Japan 36-29 Georgia, which means Japan qualify for the final.
Tonga 41-14 Chile (after leading 29-7 at halftime), not sure yet what score was in the first game of the day between Canada and Zimbabwe.
Try for USA in 25th minute, converted – USA 17-5 Russia
Ahh no, nice backline move by Russia ends with left wing receiving the ball out on the right wing and knocking it on.
No. 11 seems to have butterfingers another knock on, this time trying to catch an attempted clearance kick from USA
Thats a shame Russian player being helped off the field looks in a lot of pain with a sore left leg.
USA kick penalty to touch after a scuffle that seemed to point to Russian no 7 as culprit but USA hooker was also in the thick of things.
USA opt to kick for touch instead of taking the shot at goal from straight in front and not far out, then lose the lineout to Russia
Try under the posts for USA, converted and thats half time – USA 24-5 Russia. Lovely snow capped mountains in the background
Final score USA 39-13 Russia, so its USA versus Japan in the final on Saturday
