A real mess at the breakdown, but it’s resulted in a prized penalty for the Ospreys just five metres from the Leinster line. The scrum is the choice – major chance here with a good platform.
Two penalties given away by Leinster at the scrum and Heinke van der Merwe has been sin-binned. Massive call by the referee. Jack McGrath is on the field to prop this next scrum – Cian Healy out with that troublesome dead leg. Could a penalty try be on the way?
Yet another penalty to the Ospreys. Referee says that he couldn’t award a penalty try but could have binned another player. Final warning.
Current partnership 59 runs, 5.4 overs, RR: 10.41 (Hussey 12, Raina 45)
End of over 16 (10 runs) Chennai Super Kings 146/1 (RR: 9.12)
B Lee 4-0-42-0
What a mess. This has descended into farce. Yet another collapse and around we go again. No real direction coming from the referee and Leinster have the penalty! Crazy scenes and the Ospreys will be absolutely furious with Poite.
Leinster 17 Ospreys 9 (Half time)
That will be it for the first-half, plenty to talk about. Leinster have been the better side but the Ospreys will feel that there should only be one point in it at the half. A penalty try appeared inevitable in the closing stages but Leinster held out – that moment could be absolutely pivotal in the final reckoning.
End of over 17 (14 runs) Chennai Super Kings 160/1 (RR: 9.41)
This isn’t the first time this season that the Ospreys have felt hard done by at the scrum – remember their Heineken Cup loss to Saracens – but Steve Tandy and his coaching team will have to keep tempers under control prior to the second period. The visitors are behind to one very good try and a mistake of their own making – they’re not out of it but Leinster could pull clear at any moment. This one really is balance on a knife-edge.
It’s all kicked off on the way off the field by the looks of it. The referee must accept his share of the blame for the situation. Leinster will hope that the Ospreys continue to boil over after the break – the hosts will punch holes at will if the Welsh side lose their discipline.
End of over 18 (11 runs) Chennai Super Kings 171/2 (RR: 9.50)
End of over 19 (11 runs) Chennai Super Kings 182/2 (RR: 9.57)
Some huge hits coming now- good bit of fielding there though
The Ospreys are over the line! Excellent start from the visitors – the TMO has been called upon but Ashley Beck has definitely scored. Great play by the pack to create space and a superb angle and finish from the centre.
Leinster 17 Ospreys 16 (42′)
Ospreys try: Ashley Beck
Ospreys conversion: Dan Biggar
A little lack of composure from Richard Fussell, who was a big part of the Ospreys try, results in a penalty. Sexton breaks the silence with a good strike to re-open a four-point lead. Great response from the hosts.
Leinster 23 Ospreys 16 (51′)
Leinster penalty goal: Jonathan Sexton
Chennai Super Kings 190/3 (20.0/20 ov)
Could have been all over there! Great width put on the ball by Leinster after a turnover but Biggar smashes Nacewa across the chalk. Bad mistake follows as the Ospreys take a quick lineout and concede possession – they don’t appear to have the cool head that powered their best work at the start of the half. Rhys Webb was the culprit there, his inexperience showing.
The Ospreys are hanging in there. Leinster dominating possession through their big men – Thorn again making a serious impact – but the visitors’ scrambling work has been good in recent minutes. Another penalty at the scrum gives them a relieving kick, which was well-needed.
You couldn’t write it! Shane Williams has scored in the corner for the Ospreys. Again they used their pack to good effect and offloaded beautifully to give their arch-poacher a shot at the line. Game on.
Shane Williams comes up trumps once again in the PRO12 final – the man is a legend
Williams finished that so well. For such a small man he is incredibly strong and we can imagine that most of that charge was willpower. Superb effort from a legend of the game.
Leinster 23 Ospreys 21 (59′)
Another high-risk quick throw has the Ospreys in trouble on their line – they just don’t need to do it! Biggar finally clears after Nacewa’s kick had turned their back-three towards the corner. Some of the old head need to get hold of the game. Leinster will not go away after regaining possession there.
Nacewa spins out of a tackle and he has his second try – the Ospreys have shot themselves in the foot again. Great continuity from Leinster before Nacewa pounced on a loose ball – a bit of luck, but plenty of good work beforehand.
Leinster (17) 23 – 21 (9) Ospreys (59′)
Leinster 30 Ospreys 21 (63′)
Leinster try: Isa Nacewa
Leinster conversion: Jonathan Sexton
Chennai Super Kings 190/3 (20/20 ov)
Kolkata Knight Riders 14/1 (2.2/20 ov)
Leinster (17) 30 – 21 (9) Ospreys (66′)
Another yellow card at the scrum – Nathan White this time sent from the field for Leinster. Poite took no time to decide there, and that means that it’ll be uncontested scrums from here. A crazy situation at the scrum all game, unfortunately.
Ospreys have opted for a shot at goal – as a result of the scrum change – they’re backing themselves to score again over the final sevens. Hang on to your hats!
Leinster 30 Ospreys 24 (73′)
Ospreys penalty goal: Dan Biggar
End of over 4 (20 runs) Kolkata Knight Riders 36/1 (155 runs required from 16 overs, RR: 9.00, RRR: 9.68)
