Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer will hold a fourth and final Planning Camp in Durban from Sunday, with 42 players across all five Vodacom Super Rugby franchises invited to attend.

This will be the final opportunity for Meyer to work with the players before the final Springbok squad to face England in the Castle Incoming Tour 2012 will converge in Durban on Sunday, 3 June.

The camp this weekend will take place on Sunday 27 and Monday 28 May. The players will depart Durban around midday on Monday and will be back with their Vodacom Super Rugby franchises for training in the afternoon.

“We discussed this with the franchise CEOs recently and they’ve been very accommodating, as they were earlier in the season,” said Meyer.

“We’ve planned it in Durban, because the DHL Stormers take on The Sharks at Mr Price Kings Park the day before and will be there already. Players from the Vodacom Bulls, MTN Lions and Toyota Cheetahs will fly in on Sunday morning.

“This is by no means a final Springbok squad and the door will be open for all our eligible players until the announcement of the squad that will take on England.

“This camp will put in place a number of the finer details in terms of what we want to achieve against England. We will hit the ground running on 3 June, when we converge in Durban for the first Test with a final squad.”

Meyer said that they will keep in touch with the Vodacom Super Rugby franchises regarding injured players, but that they weren’t considered for this camp.

From first glance, no surprises… and the only unlucky ones seems to be Siya Kolisi & Steven Kitshoff, who misses out, unfortunately.

One could select a monster team from this lot!

One can now start speculating on Heyneke’s final Run-on side…. maybe something like this:

    15. Joe Pietersen
    14. JP Pietersen
    13. Bryan Habana
    12. Jean de Villiers
    11. Bjorn Basson
    10. Morné Steyn
    9. Francois Hougaard
    8. Pierre Spies
    7. Willem Albers / Josh Strauss
    6. Heinrich Brüssow
    5. Andries Bekker (Although I would have picked Juandré Kruger ahead of Bekker)
    4. Eben Etsebeth
    3. Jannie du Plessis
    2. Bismarck du Plessis
    1. Tendai (Beast) Mtawarira

  • 2

Maybe one more unlucky oke… Robert Ebersohn.

Bokke stock at centres looking thinnest of all positions

  • 3

Sad not to see Siya Kolisi in

  • 4

And really glad to see Jaco Taute in, hopefully he gets the opportunity to show himself. GBS, Like your team, any thoughts on Captain?

  • 5

On the Siya issue, very glad he is getting a break though! And Kitshoff

    5 @ Just For Kicks:
I can understand the Steven Kitshoff omission… he’ll be playing for the Junior Bokkies in the Junior World Cup in June…. mmmm maybe Kolisi too…. was’nt he in that squad too?

    Can’t remember now….

    4 @ Just For Kicks:
Freegin hell, captain is a conundrum…. maybe Jean de Villiers for the 3 England Tests only.

That is if Fransie Steyn is not brought in before the first England Test, in which case I would bring him in at No 12, and move Jean to No 13…. with Habana going to the bench.

Don’t know… will see what happens… and trust in Heyneke to make the right decisions!

  • 7

Just checked… Kolisi is not in the Junior Bokkies squad…. maybe he’s just too old

Look, Kolisi could have been selected for Openside or Blindside Flank… but the Openside Choice will be Heinrich Brussow anyway.. and possibly Kolisi is a tad light for Blindside, so his omission is understandable.

Marcell Coetzee or CJ Stander is the logical backup bench options to cover either flank options.

Actually surprised Keegan Daniel made the 42, as far as the forwards go.

Also surprised Wynand Olivier & JJ Engelbrecht made the 42 in the backline.

Olivier should drop out when Fransie Steyn returns, JJ Engelbrecht also won’t make a finer cut of the squad.

Spies and Kankowski? Playing either one of them is like getting a forward sent off in the first minute.

  • 9

    8 @ Loosehead:
Come on Loskoppie… who are the logical options for No 8, with the current injury situation in SA then.

    Daniel? Bit light, is’nt he?
    Off-form Willem Alberts?
Josh the Beard man… who runs straight into contact and does not pass?

I would say Ryan Kankowski is lucky to be selected, he’s only recently returned from injury and is kept out of a Sharks starting spot by Keegan Daniel, who I also think should not have been in the 42.

  • 10

    9@ grootblousmile:
Alberts has been selected in the squad.

    Ashley Johnson should be in.

  • 11

    10 @ Loosehead:
Ashley Johnson does not regularly make the Cheetahs run-on side anymore… and is Europe bound soon enough.

Alberts was dropped from the Sharks run-on side for 2 vital games now, only making a return to the Sharks run-on side for this weekend… you would really prefer him at No 8, even though he has only subbed as a blindsider recently?

Come on fella… put that anti-Spies bias aside for a while!

What has Spies done to earn your wrath… he’s humble enough, been the incumbant, doing well as Bulls captain in a rebuilding year…

    Seriously don’t understand your reasoning! Oh wait… he’s a Bull… OK… understand now!

  • 12

    11@ grootblousmile:
GBS, it has nothing to do with him being a Bull. When he plays for the Boks he is just that.
What it is, is his tendency to avoid the rucks, miss tackles and being a general show pony.

  • 13

No.8 definitely the weakest link in this squad.

  • 14

    Long time.

Play Keegan at 8. Has far more skills than Britney, has more attitude in his left pinkie and ample space to burn.

  • 16

    14 @ Pam Anderson:
    Hello Mrs Tits…
You should have continued with the following: “… and gives away at least 2 crucial penalties a game”

    13 @ Just For Kicks:
You now also on the Spies bashing wagon… hehehe?

    12 @ Loosehead:
I also believe Spies has his faults, but I think the Spies bashers, like yourself, are vastly eggagerating… in fact I don’t think so, I know so.

Fact is that the world’s leading coaches rate Spies, Heyneke too. You might be stuck with him as your Bokke Captain, who knows.

Heyneke will come up with a plan to maximise Spies’s potency… just watch.

  • 17

16@ grootblousmile:Not at all, I have always felt Spies is that impact man you want after 50 minutes, but he has never been your classic No.8. Keegan, similar. When you look at what is available though, from a position 6 months ago, where we were going on ad infinitum about the loosies we had, now, the cupboard seems a tad bare.

  • 18

    17 @ Just For Kicks:
I recon Schalk Burger would make one of the best No 8’s around… once back from injury.

Schalla is not the classic fetcher type, has never been either… rather a blindsider or a No 8.

Attributes a No 8 should have include perfect hands behind a scrum (Spies has become better at it, not perfect yet), exceptional vision and decision-making capability, great link man and very effective strike-runner who’s able to cross the advantage line every time… and a wall on defence. Must be an added lineout option too.

Spies falls a bit short on defence, whereas Schalla defends very well.

  • 19

    17 @ Just For Kicks:
Between Stormers and Bulls alone there are 6 frontline loosies out.

Sharks loosies only now starting to get back to full fittness and form… so yes, the loosie position could have been much better for the Bokke, yet we should still see 3 fine loosies against England anyway.

  • 20

16@ grootblousmile: Go look at the stats. He isn’t 1/2 the player that he was since his “illness”.

  • 21

Interesting, that bar 1 loosie that is injured, the Bulls have a full run on team in the squad.

  • 22

    21 @ Just For Kicks:
Yip… but we have TWO scrummies in… hehehehe

  • 23

    20 @ Loosehead:
You don’t like the way Spies plays… I get it already… long ago already….

You and some dildo’s agree on it…

  • 24

22@ grootblousmile:How come everyone else can get a rise out of you, but I can’t? If SuperBul was here, he would have taken the bait, and kakked all over me!!!!!!! Hehehehe

  • 25

    24 @ Just For Kicks:
    I see right through you….

  • 26

    @ grootblousmile:
    Tounge-Out @ grootblousmile:
Another dildo here (me) agrees on that too 🙂 You don’t like people saying anything bad about Spies…we got it already….ages ago!!

  • 27

    26 @ bos_otter:
    Hello Bos_Dildo!

  • 28

    @ grootblousmile:
