Springboks utility back Frans Steyn has signed a three year deal with the Sharks after his contract with Racing Metro came to an end.
rugbyweek
Steyn will join the Sharks from the 1st of July 2012 and may feature in the regular season but cannot play in the Play offs if the Sharks qualify due to SANZAR rules.
Sharks Commercial Manager Rudolf Straeuli says that while there was plenty of speculation over Steyn’s move they had to wait until the deal was done before confirming it.
“I am pleased that we are able to assist SARFU in bringing back international star players such as Steyn and have him back playing rugby atKings Park,” said Straeuli on the Sharks site.
“I am certain all our supporters will be delighted to see him wearing the black and white jersey once again.”
Sharks CEO, Brian van Zyl added, “The present focus is on depth and ability to actively compete in every position in the squad so we are delighted to have Francois back with us to provide that strength in our backline, not to mention his accurate boot.”
Sharks coach John Plumtree said that Steyn will bring contribute a lot to the team,”It is great to have him back with us as we did miss him.”
“He was definitely an influential player when he left and he will again be that, so it is fantastic to have him with The Sharks.”
Super Rugby rules clearly state that teams are only allowed to register 35 players at the start of a season and that players signed later in the season due to injury, must have been registered before April 1 and have played in four games to be eligible to participate in the playoffs.
Steyn’s contribution will be limited to two matches: against the Bulls on July 6 and Cheetahs on July 14. Both matches will be played in Durban.
Look this is not bragging but have the Bulls ever had this dilemma in Super Rugby?
Do we simply buy better?
Or do we use our players more wisely?
@ superBul:
This was not however about the Sharks going out to buy someone right now boet,
When Steyn left for France he was released early from contract to take up his new venture, Now in that same gentlemans agreement and contrary to all these little rumours about Fransie angry with the Sharks and never going back there was just that (rumours)he was always going to come back to the Sharks, of course it would mean to meet his wage demands at the time he returns, but he had said he would like to return to the Sharks, as he now has!
You must remember Fransie had never said he wanted to return now as a definate, this happened due to a new Bok Coach being chosen, and the new coaches wish that players playing for SA must be playing their rugby here.
Of course once Fransie indicated through the channels he wished to return, the Sharks then did what they were always going to do, and thats bring Fransie home to the Tank.
and thats bring Fransie home to the Tank.

That is like music to my ears… Lambie and Frans at 10/12, it is going to be magic.
… en so vang al die Sharks supporters ‘n ekstra plukkie vanaand, so bly is hulle…
I’ve always said Fransie Steyn needs to return to SA, make a stand here and play in our Competitions… to make him a regular Bok, because one simply can’t judge the boy’s form from the little we see of him playing in France, for Racing Metro, in foreign competitions… and the bit we did see of his latest game this past weekend, was not too flash at all… really, he was actually below average on the weekend.
I believe he’s a superbly talented oke, I believe on form he would be my first choice No 12 for the Bokke… but he should be measured or measurable against his SA peers…. and that’s basically the way I feel about all South Africans not playing in SA, including Fourie du Preez, Ruan Pienaar, Bakkies, Danie Pakslae… and the host of others out there.
People can say what they like about Ruan Pienaar & Schalk Britz and the rest of the Northern Hemisphere South African crowd of players and how wonderful they are up North… yet last time Ruan came down to play for the Bokke (after being just as stellar overseas), he was piss-poor… there’s no other way to describe it.
So Fransie, settle back nicely in SA, work your way back and serve the Sharks well… and I hope you spend years here in SA, where you belong!
@ grootblousmile:Can’t argue with that boet
5 @ sharky_forever:
You even agree about the “Ekstra Plukkie” bit?
Hahahaha
What I do know is that the players can’t wait to play for Heyneke Meyer… they’re all chomping at the bit for the opportunity and to help SA right back to No 1 in the world…. where the Bokke rightfully belong.
@ grootblousmile::lol: nou jy weet ek het n mooi JONG vrou boet 😉
this is true, Die spelers wil nie opgesaal wees met politieke crap nie, they just want to play the game they love@ grootblousmile:

11 @ superBul:
Jy sal OCR software moet gebruik (Outomatic Character Recognition Software)… soos ABBYY Fine Reader, of soos Presto PageManager…

😆 @ superBul:
Hello all, Francois Louws plays tonight for the Barbarians against Ireland XV, kick off 20.45 SA time, looks like a stronger Baa Baas team than Saturday’s one, and the Irish XV looks way weaker than England so maybe a win on the cards for Baa Baas.
17 @ Bullscot:
Hello,
The game is not shown here in SA on TV…. damn!
Anyone interested can try follow score updates here : http://matchdaylive.irishrugby.ie/index.php doesn’t seem like the game is going to be TV.
