And according to the Stuff.co.nz, the NZRU is giving the centre time to make his decision.
Australian media has been reporting since February that Williams is close to signing with Rugby League ouftit, the Sydney Roosters, while some reports even hinted Williams could consider a move to play for South African Super Rugby franchise, the Stormers, after his manager Khoder Nasser was spotted in Cape Town.
However, Williams quashed this speculation by tweeting that Nasser was in South Africa to organise a boxing bout at the end of this year.
These speculations have moved the NZRU into action with the organistation keen to see Williams stay in New Zealand playing Rugby Union.
NZRU CEO Steve Tew says the offer for Williams is out there.
“We’ve been talking to Khoder and he understands what we can do.
“Right now, as I understand it, Sonny Bill is very focused on performing for the Chiefs and from what I’m seeing, he’s doing a very good job of it.
“When they’re ready to make their decision they’ll make it and we’ll support whatever they decide.
“They know what we want to do and they’ve got the offer.
“It’s an ongoing discussion but we’ve given them time to focus on what he’s doing now,” said Tew.
what the obsession is with this bloke, I just don’t know. No one player is bigger than the game. By chasing him the way will end up in the players controlling the system – and that wouldn’t be good for the game. Let him go and bash his head in, we won’t miss him, he hasn’t always been the first choice for the All Blacks anyway.
