Sharks prop Jannie du Plessis has been issued an off-field yellow card for his open-handed slap to the face of Hurricanes loose forward Carl Lowe during yesterday’s game.

Sharksworld

An all-in brawl late in the second half saw numerous players getting involved, but unsurprisingly, the only evidence found on review was du Plessis’s strike, notwithstanding a fair few shots going in from a number of players in yellow as well.

The citing officer reviewed the video footage, as directed by the white card shown by ref Glen Jackson at the time of the incident and found that Jannie’s transgression was not deserving of a red card, issuing him yellow instead. The card will be added to the player’s record, but crucially for his team, will not mean any suspension. With the final tour game against the Blues coming up, the Sharks could scarcely afford to lose their most experienced prop.

Meanwhile, Reds prop Ben Daley and Brumbies front rower Dan Palmer have also been issued off field yellow cards following a clash in their match in Brisbane last night.

I expected a ban… well, Jannie and the Sharks are lucky…. not that jannie has been any good this season at all so far!

Was darem maar n mooi klap daai….so verkeerd as wat dit is.

It was only a slap and we got a penalty for it. Really never deserved a ban.

I remember Rory giving a Lander player (think it was a Lander player) a slap and was sent off. Was back in 2009. The only difference was the Lander’s player really milked that one by diving and rolling on the ground.

Anyhow most of the tempers that were flying about was due to a useless ref. Sharks should never let a ref get to them and let their emotions get out of control. Should keep it in check, otherwise we lose focuse. Hope Plum has spoken to the boys. There were also Canes players having a go, fact is they started it all. Plenty was happening that the ref and camera never picked up from both sides.

I’m worried about Jannie’s overall form this year.

    He has not looked good.

Agree that the referee was shocking, but the fact that the Sharks lost all focus because of it was not good.

I suppose it’s easy to critisize from here but the Sharks would have to really work at maintaining dicipline and focus. They looked the physically stronger side yesterday but because of that vital break in focus were hammered.

I think Jannie was lucky … it was a stupid act.

Jannie slappe like a girl, however there was a proper fight afterwards. That should have been punished.

That what happens when a team losses focus. Just not good enough. We should be better than that to allow a ref to get to us. We started off well, but it went downhill from there.

Also doubt Keegan is right for the captaincy. Need a stronger captain that can stand up to the ref, but in a good respectful manner like John used too. He should have got the players to regroup and to just let however bad the ref was reffing go and stay focused. Anyhow we will learn, but think our season is over. Just far too difficult to claw our way back from this now.

Jannie is off form for sure. Also we miss Beast huge and for that matter John. Just shows how valuable John was. Some will only see now what we had in John that he no longer is there. John was a monster at scrum time and for that matter in defence too. John would have filled in for Beast now that he is injured. For that matter would rather have had John at tighthead right now too. But he has moved on and we should have filled the gap, just never did. Doubt Chadwick is our answer to fill in for Beast. Well not just yet.

With the Aussie teams so bad this year and the regular New Zealand sides not featuring so strong yet, there might still be space for the Sharks, they just have to pull serious finger from hereon in…. otherwise it WILL be their worst season in a long while.
