Head Bulls, but heart Cheetahs. Having seen the results of the last 2 matches, it seems anything is possible again this weekend!

  • 3

Cheeeeeeeeeeetahs!!! Alles in die kol as die Cheetah hol!
Going to be an intriguing battle! We have yet to see the true measure of this Cheetah side! Mark Lawrence, blew the game to death, with his penalty a minute style last week.

The Super 15 is a marathon, and depth will be the true measure of sides. Uncontested scrums are farcial, and the sides that want to survive need 2 – 3 players in every posiotion in the tight 5, able to compete at the highest level imo.

Sharks, and Lions already looking fragile in this regard.

    3 @ Cheetah4eva:
Strange how many injuries are to the SA props at the moment.

Lions: JC Janse van Rensburg, CJ van der Linde
    Sharks: Beast
    Bulls: Rossouw de Klerk
    Cheetahs: Coenie die Barfighter

Just as bad seems to be the loosies

    Sharks: Deysel, Alberts, Kankowski
    Cheetahs: Juan Smith
    Bulls: Dewald Potgieter, Arno Botha
    Stormers: Schalk Burger

This year’s Super Rugby, even more so than last year, revolves around possession rugby, keeping the ball… and doing the breakdowns to perfection. It also revolves around very solid set pieces… the lineouts and scrums.

Bulls lineout is functioning well… well, did so last week, whereas the Cheetahs lineout was not solid last week and in the warm-up games.

We’ve seen lots of scrum penalties in the build up to Super Rugby and in the 11 games in Super Rugby so far… so the team who keeps their dicipline best at scrumtime also has quite an advantage.

This game and the Stormers / Sharks game is certainly going to be interesting!

    Gooooooooo Bullssssssssss!

    7 @ GBS,
True that, and as it is the Lions and Shorks don’t really have prop depth. Steph Roberts is an honest grafter, but he isn’t even close to the Cheetahs reserve group.

Even the impressive Marcel vd Merwe is waiting for a Super 15 run. Nyakane has taken his chances, and will be interesting to see how he shapes vs Kruger.

To compound matters, the Sharks depth amongst the loosies is fragile at best if Alberts, Deysel, and Coetzee are unavailable, whereas the Stormers, bulls, and Cheetahs have useful depth there

  • 13

    12 @ Cheetah4eva:
The Lions now have immense problems…. 2 valuable props out PLUS their first choice hooker…. and there’s not much in the cupboard at the Lions at hooker (Visagie & Bezuidenhout are both below par), and at prop they now have Pat Celliers and not much more… soon we’ll see Varsity Cup props from UJ having to stand in.

In addition the Lions locks are all suspect.

Cheetahs biggest problem lies in their locks and whatever you guys say, the depth players all over (except at prop, looseforward and possibly flyhalf) is thin, thin as a rake. Snyman at centre is going to have a torrid time today… specially with Robert Ebersohn not being the best defender either. Cheetahs wingers also suspect on defence.

  • 14

    @ GBS,

Not as if Basson is the most prolific defender around hey! Apart from being a real speedmerchant, he is a bit like Paulse of old. Without acres of free space he is hopeless. You underestimate Snyman, and Ebersohn is not bad on defence, in fact he will more oft than not win the ball immediately after the tackle. And if they go down, Geel, Stemmet, Louw and Lawson are pretty useful. You must really move outside your blue circle, there is a big wide world out there.

Bulls have one great lock in Kruger, Flippie, is a lumberng yellow card, and Steenkamp is okay.

  • 15

    14 @ Cheetah4eva:
Bjorn Basson is not a very good defender… and sometimes tends to knock at odd times.

Let’s see what happens this afternoon at centre… proof of the pudding I suppose is in the eating.

Flippie… well, he’s a Springbok… and he was very good against the Sharks PLUS no indicipline shown there. Wilhelm Steenkamp was a Cheetahs CAPTAIN last year, and he’s got enough Super Rugby experience. Now compare the Cheetahs locks to these 3, further temper that with the Cheetahs lineouts last week against very, very ordinary Lions locks… and against the 6 Balls the Bulls locks stole from them in the Polokwane warm-up.

I’d pick any and ALL THREE Bulls locks ANY DAY over any of the Cheetahs locks… any day. Hell I’d choose Van Velze and / or Daniel Adongo over ANY of the Cheetahs locks any day.

The lineouts will speak for themselves today… damn, I hope Chiliboy is spot-on with his throws.

Kck-off is in 50 minutes…. get nervous, get very nervous!

  • 16

Bulls have 12 Springboks in their run-on side…. impressive if you consider that 7 Springboks have left the side since last year (Gurthro Steenkamp, Gary Botha, Bakkies Botha, Danie Rossouw, Victor Matfield, Fourie du Preez, Jaco Pretorius).

In addition 1 Bulls Bok, Dewald Potgieter, is out with injury…

  • 17

The Cheetahs have 2 Springboks, no 3 Springboks in their run-on side (nearly forgot that Davon Raubenheimer toured with the Bokke), PLUS 1 Bok on the bench.

  • 18

Come on, move closer… just more than 11 minutes to kick-off!

  • 19

  • 20

    19 @ smallies72:
    Einaaaa

    Dis nie flippen snaaks nie!

  • 21

Lykmy die Cheetahs speel in Groen truie vandag???

  • 22

    @ grootblousmile:

  • 23

No, Cheetahs have their WHITE jerseys on now… must have just been the warm-up garb

  • 24

    22 @ smallies72:

  • 25

    Players coming out

  • 26

I expected much more people on the stands!

  • 28

Akona receives the kick-off, calmly… and calmly kicked to touch by Morné Steyn

  • 29

Penalty Cheetahs, Flippie penalized for not rolling away in the tackle.

Goosen goes for goal, not a difficult one.

  • 30

    Cheetahs 3 / 0 Bulls
