So the Sharks have finally realised that Michalck isn’t a 9.
Now perhaps Naka will finally realise that Tewius isn’t a rugby player.

  • 35

32@ grootblousmile:I got that too, disappointed there wasn’t a beer in the beer cooler, could have done with that!!!

Bulle speel nie die naweek nie, so ook nie die Leeus nie en die Cheetahs speel oorsee.

So geen groot rugby hierdie naweek in SA nie, sal maar gras sny.

  • 39

37@ grootblousmile:Give one to the ref – you never know, it may help!!!!

  • 41

    40 @ Loosehead:
Agree that Matewis is utterly crap… Piet van Zyl is OK.

Press conference in CT (sport24)- The ball is officially rolling on a possible move from Newlands to Cape Town Stadium by Western Province rugby.

That confirmation came on Thursday at a hastily-convened media briefing at Newlands, where mayor Patricia de Lille said that the city and rugby bosses had agreed to enter “formal exploratory talks” about a potential switch of major rugby to the larger Green Point venue which hosted matches during the 2010 soccer World Cup.

The highly significant step puts to an end, at least for the time being, the sometimes fractious relationship that has existed between the city and the WPRFU, which owns Newlands.

One of the biggest obstacles to a possible change of venue at this stage – Cape Town Stadium has a current capacity of around 56,000 to Newlands’ 48,000 – is the need for a greatly expanded corporate suites section at the initially soccer-geared newer facility, should rugby take occupancy there.

As Theuns Roodman, chief executive of the union, put it: “We have 300 suites here (Newlands) and they are a huge money-spinner for the union.”

Asked what would happen if the clubs, who are sometimes considered to wield too much power in WP rugby, refused to contemplate a move, Titus said that “we will cross that bridge when we come to it”.

43: gaan boggerol help, CTS se trofeekas is nog meer leeg !

  • 45

44@ bdb:Ow, that hurts!!! But us Stormers boytjies, we always look on the bright side, at least now we’ll have more space to put our trophy cabinet when, one day, we get one!

  • 46

    45 @ Just For Kicks:
I think the current cabinet now houses Tea Cups, plates, a couple of bowls of sweets and a few jammerlappies!

  • 47

46@ grootblousmile:Yup, we like to keep a clean house!

  • 48

On a serious note, what really saddens me, is how, since the introduction of the conference system, we have turned against the teams from SA in order to see our own teams win the conference.

Yes, we have always had friendly rivalry, and banter, but thats all changing now. some of the comments, even on this site seem to be twisted with bitterness, seemingly to rile others. It’s far worse on our other mates site, where it has become open hostility.

It’s very sad, but thats the reality. One of these days it will become like English soccer hooliganism where gangs go out to do the business against each other. Rugby, in the past has done a great job in avoiding this, but, I fear, the time is coming.

I don’t want to be part of that, and will bow out long before then. I just hope, and it is the reason I joined this site, that we keep it at bay for as long as possible.

  • 49

    48 @ Just For Kicks:
I agree with your sentiments, in fact I warned against the Conference System long before kick-off in the first match of 2011.

What has in fact happened is that we have officially killed off more than 100 years of Curry Cup history and glory, to expand and expand Super Rugby into the uncouth monster it has become.

But more than that, we have absolutely killed off the chances of long Traditional Rugby Tours to and from SA or New Zealand or Australia by heaping the season so full of Super Rugby, an expanded Tri Nations (The Rugby Championship) and End Of Year Tours…

We have similarly reduced the Vodacom Cup to lessor importance than the Varsity Cup by now and we have reduced Club Rugby to the distant background where talent scouts do not even bother to go.

…. and in who’s favour did all of this work and pan out…. maybe Australian Rugby….

SARU (Andy Marinos) sold South Africa down the river big time on this last Super Rugby deal….

Had a really great trip thanks and returned in pretty good shape considering! lol

  • 55

    54 @ Blue Bird:
Don’t know about Cape Town, but it’s actually been much cooler here in the last 2 and a bit weeks.

Actually quite chilly tonight… was considering puting something on over the golf shirt and sticking my feet into some shoes in stead of some floppies…

  • 56

    @ grootblousmile:
How about a nice pair of Blue Bulls Slippers?
