6 Teams are up… 6 to go.
From Sharksworld – A story in this morning’s Beeld confirms that Griquas prop Janro van Niekerk will tour to Australia and New Zealand with the Sharks as their fourth prop.
With both Beast Mtawarira and Julian Redelinghuys suffering serious leg injuries in the build-up to the tournament and John Smit and Eugene van Staden opting to continue their careers abroad, the Sharks have been in somewhat of a pickle up-front, with Dale Chadwick, Jannie du Plessis and Wiehahn Herbst the only fit senior props. With the Sharks’ own Vodacom Cup team lacking in experienced options too, the decision was made to go in search of an available option.
Both Steph Roberts and van Niekerk came down to Durban for training sessions at various stages, but it’s the latter who has seemingly been given the nod to tour and is apparently already in Durban being fitted up for touring kit.
Van Niekerk said to Beeld, “it was definitely a career decision to move to Griquas from Boland, in the hope that I might get some Super Ruby time with the Cheetahs. Now I have that opportunity, although it’s with the Sharks!
“I’m really looking forward to getting a chance to play. I think my scrummaging is my strong point, but I just hope that I can make a positive contribution to the team”.
Eish! Why is Naka persisting with Raubenheimer who offers nothing on attack? Johnson hasn’t hit the form he displayed last year, but the team still looked much better with him in the starting team. Pity Martin Muller is injured. The return of Strauss, is welcome, as Snyman, also hasn’t been close to his 2011 form (much to GBS glee)!
Cheetahs need to deliver a commanding performance thisweekend. Rebels blunted the Reds attacks, and it will be interesting to see, if it is a case of the Rebels having improved exponentially, or have the Reds regressed?
4 @ Cheetah4eva:
I am also somewhat dumbfounded by Naka’s choice to start with Raubenheimer and not Ashley Johnson.
I’m glad Andries Strauss is back for the Cheetahs.
I think the Rebels had the game of their lives against the Reds… and I think the Reds were somewhat complacent, in fact very similar to what we saw from the Bulls (not respecting the Blues enough by not taking points opportunities to goal and persisting to kick to touch).
I think the Reds will bounce back, but whether it will be against the Sharks in Durban, this weekend, is a different story.
Freegin hell, the next week the Reds play the Bulls… so I hope your suggestion that the Reds are somewhat down on form lasts till AFTER that game, at least!
Hiert alle RT’s, howzit? My naweek het pas begin, hieeeeeehaaaaa!
Gaan gou my picks insit…..voordat ek dalk my mind change,
6 @ Pietman:
Hehehe
Kuk is egter ek moet Saterdag werk, eishhhhh….
8 @ Pietman:
Darem binneshuis met moosa sekuriteit hier by my.
Vrou roep vir ete, praat later, tjorts.
9 @ grootblousmile:
Ek is bang my goeie vrind, die Sultan van Pietiepedia, se een hand word afgekap, of sy tong waarmee hy moet proe word uitgsny… of Piet moet vir een of ander woeste lapdraende Mohammed met skurwe ballas en ‘n vrot tol buk in ‘n Woestyntjoekie….
Hehehe
What more must Ashley do to get a start?
12@ Loosehead:Join the Kings?
@ grootblousmile:I presume you’re messing around with the site again. I hope so, as it looks kak with the stuff from the left now in-between the stories and RH column. It all looks so cluttered – why don’t you get rid of all that stuff any way. The calendar isn’t needed, the log-in could be on the top, to the right of the menu bar (if possible) with a drop down box for admin/registration, etc. The categories, search, archives could be in a drop down on the menu bar linking to a new page, and the mail links could be in a contacts page – also on the menu bar. Put the 2 ads on the right with the rest, and hey presto, a clean front page!!!!
Actually just messing about… I have a totally new design coming soon…
BonzaiGBS is busy designing a new Header Image as we speak, and I’m going to re-design the look and feel sometime in the next week, and move to the totally new look and feel when I’m ready.
Should also have a marked influence on load speed, seeing as we’ll be moving away from the traditional WordPress Themes, to one written totally by myself.
The queries the current Theme generates, during load time is just staggering!
Well done, sounds awesome. Already looks much better!!! Look forward to seeing the new site. By the way, hope you’re coming down for the Stormers/Bulls match!!!!
16 @ Just For Kicks:
When is that again?
16 @ Just For Kicks:
I see that match is on 31 March… 2 days prior to us flying out to George… for KKNK…
So, no I won’t be coming, unfortunately.
18@ grootblousmile:You’d rather go and watch a bunch of teenage smoked up hippies rather than decent rugby……Oh no, wait, that is the Stormers team!
19 @ Just For Kicks:
Bwahahahaha
Might have to go to Oudtshoorn just to forget about the result of the game in question….. or celebrate the result for days with copious amounts of Jeagie Bombs!
Hehehe

Only 3 sides still not available: Highlanders (like usual), Sharks (like usual), Rebels.
I received a mail from WPRU, with a Media Alert.
A Press Conference is scheduled to take place at the WP Rugby Boardroom, Newlands Stadium at 14:00 today.
It reads as follows:
The Executive Mayor of Cape Town, Alderman Patricia de Lille and the President of the Western Province Rugby Union (WPRU), Tobie Titus will jointly address the media on the latest developments regarding negotiations over the rugby union’s possible move to Cape Town Stadium.
*********************************
Will we see some bold move in favour of a move to Cape Town Stadium and is this a fatal blow to Newlands as we have come to know it…. or is this just another blabber-blabber session?
28@ grootblousmile:
It will be the City and WP Rugby are in negotiations regarding the move to the stadium. Blah, blah, blah.
WP is close on bankrupt. If they can rezone Boolands and rent the CT Stadium cheap cheap then it would be bye bye Newlands.
29 @ Loosehead:
I know at one stage there were plans to demolish Newlands and replace it with an Industrial Park of sorts…
