The Western Province Rugby Union and the City of Cape Town have enter into “formal talks” about the possibility of the WPRFU moving base from Newlands to the city’s new stadium in Greenpoint.

In a joint media briefing on Thursday Patricia de Lille, the Mayor of Cape Town, and WPRFU President Tobie Titus revealed that they have started the “process” that could eventually lead to WP and the Stormers leaving the iconic Newlands stadium and using the Cape Town Stadium as a permanent base.

However, both emphasised that it will be “years” before the entire process is completed.

“Both the City of Cape Town and the WPRFU have established technical teams that will explore ways forward,” the Mayor said.

She added that the previous stand-off between the two organisations now belongs in the past.

“Let bygones be bygones,” De Lille told the media gathering at the Newlands stadium.

“It [these exploratory talks] captures the possible way we want to go,” Titus said, adding that it will take time.

“It is going to be years,” he said, when asked what time frame can be pout on the process.

“There will be many issues on the table,” he added.

The WPRFU boss, Titus, reiterated that ultimately it will be the union’s decision whether they want to move and when.

“That decision [to move or not to move to the Cape Town Stadium] was recently reconfirmed by 92 clubs..

“They [the clubs] reaffirmed that for the time being this union will stay at Newlands.”

He said that doesn’t mean in a few years, at the end of the process, the clubs will not reconsider that decision.

Now hopefully the WPRU is astute enough to force the City of Cape Town into a Notarial Deed of Lease for Cape Town Stadium, with exclusive rights, for a term of 5 x 5 Years (PLUS RENEWAL OPTIONS for the same term and terms… twice more) at a rate of less than what Newlands costs them currently per annum.

In addition they could re-fashion / demolish / re-build the current Newlands grounds into a wonderful Office Park or massive Maul… which they would own as well and rake in the moolah!

The City of Cape Town is just dying to find a good use for their whiter than white elephant, Cape Town Stadium, and will consent to almost any terms on the books.

They will also now be willing to consent to add enough quality Hospitality suites, so that Cape Town Stadium at least equals if not betters the amount of hospitality suites which Newlands caters for.

All they need do is ask me, I’ve got a sample of EXACTLY the Notarial Deed of Lease they require… as well as accompanying Agreements to make the re-moddeling or addition of hospitality suites possible as part of the deal…. been there, done that with one of my commercial properties… and got the T-Shirt!

Change a couple of names, dates, figures… and you’ve got the documents you need!

My deal is already registered in the Deeds Office in Pretoria, no problem…. and has stood the test of time for 12 years now already!

Well, what are you waiting for, offer them your services and demand a box in return – me, Loosehead and our mates will look after it for you!!!!!

Bru picks for 6N not easy at all – all games could go either way with ease!!!

Last round and have gone with the following – wrong, or too conservative?

SCOTLAND to beat Italy by 8

WALES to beat France by 18

ENGLAND to beat Ireland by 8

    Hehehehe

Not a bad idea at all…. but I’d add a few tweaks to your idea which you might find more appealing… the box must be in the main grand stand, on the halfway line or thereabouts and they must supply booze and food for the box too, for the first 25 years….

    Hehehehe

5@ grootblousmile:Now we’re talking – perhaps some plush leather sofa’s because after 25 years of sitting on the rubbish they give us at the moment, we don’t want piles!

Yeah… why not… and for good measure they can throw in some good looking wenches to serve us our food and drinks!

    Hahahaha

7@ grootblousmile:Deal is, the wenches must not, or pretend to, know anything about rugby. They have a job, and it is imperative they stick to it. My wife went to a ‘learn about rugby’ evening with Krige and Cowley. Now I am expected to get my own dinner, as she’s too busy blogging.

Sounds about right to me… about the wenches, not the part about YOUR wife and her rugby knowledge!

Yip bit of a tough one JFK, surely we have to finally win a game this year so agree with your pick against Italy, haven’t done my picks yet but was thinking about going by 7 so quite close to your margin. The other two don’t know, one would think Wales are favourites BUT that French team can be just so unpredictable and after we all back Wales they will probably come and have their game of the tournament and beat Wales, interesting to note they (France) have insisted the stadium roof stays open, whatever the result don’t think the margin will be as big as you’ve gone for, but I’m quite far down the standings anyway 🙁 . The England v Irish one not sure either do we go on home ground advantage or on recent 6 nations history between the two, recent form (this season) makes me think they are fairly similar, although I think that Irish pack is a good one especially if they have ref on their side again. Oh well will make picks later.
