The Golden Lions Rugby Union has given Rugby-Talk 10 match day tickets for every Super Rugby home game of the Lions for 2012.

Firstly I have to thank Krystle Geach at the Lions for this kind gesture and consideration, it is appreciated, and we’ll put the tickets to good use.

This set me thinking… in addition to the Lions tickets, maybe I should approach the other 4 Super Rugby Franchises for match day tickets as well, and here’s why!

I’ve been mulling the idea around in my head, driving around yesterday and last night.

I want to initiate a weekly award of tickets to the most honourable causes of the week. By this I mean ticket give-aways to some vervent rugby supporters who simply do not have the means to purchase them, or possibly to a deserving act by some Police Station somewhere… or a good news story for somebody with a disability… or to some Children’s home…

Something along those lines…

Kindly respond to this Article by giving me more ideas!

The main aim would be for RUGBY to benefit from this, and of course for the honourable cause we choose to benefit even more!

Weekly, we could have an Article asking for deserving causes, deserving people!

We could also give some of these tickets to our weekly leader in our Rugby-Talk Super Rugby 2012 SuperBru pool, to the game of the next week which he would want tickets for.

In addition we could award tickets to the best blogger of the week, someone with a really good comment or 2.

We could even Auction some tickets to hand-picked matches off and the proceeds could go to our charity of choice.

Come on people, I expect a lot of debate from you on this… a lot of ideas!

We have a unique opportunity here to do something really good for some really deserving people, let’s not let this one slip!

Here’s a challenge: I challenge every Rugby-Talker to come up with at least 2 good ideas to make this work and with 5 worthy causes we could include in our give-aways!

If you’re not registered on Rugby-Talk, and flatly refuse to register, don’t let that preclude you from making suggestions, simply pop me a mail at webmaster@rugby-talk.com

I will gladly keep your name anonymous and post YOUR idea for you on Rugby-Talk on your behalf!

In fact, I have an even better idea…. I’m going to OPEN THE BLOG up for 2 days, so that non-registered readers can comment here too – In the space for your name, gladly state your nickname elsewhere, it is totally acceptable.

(This will not affect normal registered users… you Login as normal and comment as Logged-In Users, as normal too).

It does not matter if you have or have had a beef with me before!

It does not matter if we won’t speak again on the same forum after this!

What matters is that we do this thing right, and properly!

I know we are read by many, from all over and from other rugby forums… yes YOU who have now stumbled accross this Article too!

Goooooooooi Mieliesssssss!

Come on, help me develop this idea, before I go to the other Unions with a well-worked plan!

Regards,

grootblousmile

  • 9

Maybe I should give a ticket each to the ER24 Ambulance team who attended to me when I wrote off my car, about a month ago.

    Damn, those people were professional!

We have a number of farm schools in our area. Being a farming community, the community does not have money. On the farm here, each year, we take a class of pupils, and as a career opportunity teach them to make wine. It takes a year (just a day or two a month), where we show the children how to prune, how to harvest, how the wine making process works, etc. We give them a lecture on the legal aspects, labels laws and a basic marketing idea, (plus a lecture on alcohol abuse). We make one barrel for them, which they look after until ready for bottling. We then hand bottle with the children, whereupon we donate the bottles of wine to the school on the condition that the children/school organise an event, usually a dinner/dance where they auction off all the wine. The money raised is then ploughed into the school. So far with the money they have raised, they have been able to paint the school, buy projectors, and complete a computer centre (different schools). To make it fair, we do this for two local schools a year, one private, and one government school, both are treated equally.

I would love to encourage the kids from the poorer schools further with an incentive of the tickets. These children virtually never leave the farm, let alone go to the local village. They NEVER get to Cape Town, but they all love rugby. They support the Stormers to the hilt, and are always putting the teams to rights, as we do on this blog! It may be selfish of me to suggest using a set of tickets for the kids in this area, but the idea could be spread to other schools where there are equally unfortunate kids in places that never get to see their teams play. I would give one ticket to the headmaster/mistress on the condition that 9 kids would be taken to the match. I would, in conjunction with the head organise the transport to and from the stadium, and as I would be going to the match to cover it on behalf of rugby-talk, I would do an article on the event/day which I would post here and on my website.

Obviously this would only work if you get Stormers tickets, but perhaps this suggestion would help in securing some tickets from the powers that be.

I think this is a brilliant initiative, well done GBS, and I am sure there are many, many worthy causes that would benefit from the kind actions of the rugby unions!

GBS something major wrong with the site, I’ve been trying to post for over an hour, now I see I am logged in as Smallies72!!!

    18 @ Just For Kicks:
Man, we have a performance Plugin, W3 Total Cache, which farks around every so often…

I’ve de-activated it now… try again and give me feedback!

    17 @ Just For Kicks:
Very good idea… and I will keep it in mind.

Hell you could even provide the transport for the kids to Newlands and back… when you go sit in the Press Box for us!

  • 20

I see it eventually went through, thanks.

Thats what I meant, I would organise the transport, spend what part of the day I could with the kids, and do an article on the day out.

  • 21

Thats much better, went through like greased lightning!

as sy in die middel 80s daar was het sy onder hom gewerk hy was in charge van die kombi’s asook sport en die koshuise

  • 23

    @ grootblousmile:
WTR has also been offered tickets.

  • 24

    22 @ smallies72:
Nee, ek dink dis voor haar tyd.

  • 26

I think that a match week quiz for REGISTERED bloggers where 2 pairs of tickets are up for grabs could be a good idea.

A Lions type question for Coke Tin tickets, Bulls question for Loftus etc. E-mail entry. No blogger to win more than 1 in say 4 games.

The other tickets to go to a worthy cause. Take some photo’s. Do a weekly article on the recipient(s) and their outings.

Some good PR for RT and the contributing Union(s).

  • 27

I spoke to one of my canonies at the Bulls… and they are quite affable to the idea of tickets too.

  • 28

    @ grootblousmile:
    Sounds great.

Now only the tight fisted Sharks and Strreptruie. Cheetahs could be a problem. 10 tickets could just double their attendance.

  • 29

    28 @ Scrumdown:
I’ll work a wangle with the Stormpoppies… and for the Sharks it’ll be a good Brand-building excercise (that to them is very important and quite a trigger-switch for a yes).

As far as the Vrystaaters are concerned, they are good people…. and my family is fom the Staat initially (and most attended Grey College), so that is always a door-opener too!
