The Cheetahs will travel to Polokwane, to face an expected full strength Bulls team in the last warm-up.

The match take place on Saturday.

The Cheetahs will look to test a couple of players, who have played more of a role off the bench, as Naka and his merry men, fine tune their team.

This match will be televised on SuperSport, which is a step in the right direction after they got their priorities all wrong in broadcasting the Stormers vs Boland game, but failing to broadcast the much more meaningful warm-up matches between the Lions vs Stormers, and Cheetahs vs Stormers!

Team:

15. Willie le Roux
14. Rayno Benjamin
13. Robert Ebersohn
12. Philip Snyman
11. Rocco Jansen
10. Johan Goosen
9. Pieter van Zyl
8. Davon Raubenheimer
7. Ashley Johnson
6. Heinrich Brüssow
5. Izak van der Westhuizen
4. Andries Ferreira
3. WP Nel
2. Adriaan Strauss (C)
1. Trevor Nyakane

Replacements:

17. Ryno Barnes
18. Lourens Adriaanse
19. Francois Uys
20. Philip van der Walt
21. Tewis de Bruyn
22. Sias Ebersohn
23. Hennie Daniller
24. Andries Strauss

The changes to last week’s team, that impressed against the Stormers are as follows:

Willie le Roux gets a run at 15, to see how he goes against Super 15 opposition. He was a revelation at 15 for the Boland, but he now has to make the step up.

Tewis de Bruyn is back from Lyon, and should get a run off the bench.

Ashley Johnson gets a start at 7, where he excelled in last year’s Super Rugby.

Benjamin gets a start to see if he can oust Dusty Noble, who has been the prefered choice at No 14.

Trevor Nyakane, gets a run at loosehead, there is quite a bit a versatility amongst the young  props, with Nyakane also able to play tighthead.

And finally, the promising Phillip Snyman gets a chance at No 12, to see how he goes. He was impressive at No 12 last year (mostly played wing), where he was very exciting.

The Cheetahs B – Team, also play against the Bulls B – team in Pretoria (Friday night), and some of those players also feature in Polokwane, as bench players.

Enjoy the rugby ladies and gents. This promises to be a game of interest, as the franchises get closer to finalising their squads.

Go Cheeeeeeeetahs! Gooooooi Mielies!!

Bench for Polokwane, barring injury has been announced!

Looking at the starting 15, and the B-team, there seems to be a fair bit of depth! Of the 41 players, at least 26 have had a few matches at S15 level.

    Ryno Barnes
    Lourens Adriaanse
    Francois Uys
    Philip van der Walt
    Tewis de Bruyn
    Sias Ebersohn
    Hennie Daniller
    Andries Strauss

    1 @ Cheetah4eva:
I’ve tuned and updated your Article… and added the bench.

  • 3

Will be a good game. Can’t wait

  • 4

Jeeeez, can’t believe there are’nt better scrummies around at the Cheetahs rather than pulling Matewis de Bruyn back into the mix!

  • 5

I suspect the Cheetahs might take this warm-up game…

Just don’t think the Bulls do well in warm-ups, as history has shown. Maybe the Bulls focus on certain aspects for a game.. areas where they want to test things or improve play.

Anyway, I will be rivited to the TV, to make my own assumptions on the game.

I am inclined to agree regarding tewis, though I think this year will be his swansong. Younger players like rademan, Luiters, and van Zyl are pushing hard.

That said Matewis impressed me last year when he played 10 vs the griquas! So he will add value and experience.

    6 @ Cheetah4eva:
Wonder how Super Sareltjie will go in Super Rugby, all the way there in Aussie.

I think their type of game will suit his game.

Think the Cheetahs will miss Super Sareltjie.

Pit van Zyl and Rademan has some real potential, just think as starters they are a bit undercooked.. which might result in us seeing a lot of Matewis de Bruyn, the scrummie with no tactical nous, even less talent and no appreciation of the game rugby.

    @ GBS #7
On de udder hand GBS, Everybody has sussed out Super sareltjie after his outstanding season, whereas nobody has seen much of van zyl and Rademan. Lol, you are being a tad harsh on Tewis, he has his moments, solid, if not spectacular lol
