The Halftime score between the Stormers and the Lions at Newlands was 13 / 6 in favour of the Stormers.
Full time could also not come quick enough for the Lions, the Stormers having raced ahead to 28 / 6 through tries by Gio Aplon.
The Final Score was Stormers (13) 28 / (6) 6 MTN Lions
The only thing marring the Stormers performance were 3 yellow cards, to Nick Koster, De Kock Steenkamp and Gio Aplon.

Allister Coetzee declared himself “satisfied” with the DHL Stormers 28(13) – 6(6) win over the Currie Cup Champion Lions at DHL Newlands on Friday. “It was a physical game, just what we needed at this stage of our preparation. A good training exercise but there is still work to do.” said the coach.
The Stormers defence was again solid, keeping the Lions tryless despite Koster, Steenkamp and Aplon being binned in the 67th, 75th and 78th minutes, for repeated infringements.
“We will be working with Jaco Peyper to understand the new law amendments and interpretations.” said the coach. “Clearly we can’t afford to pick up yellow cards.”
Whilst it’s still early in the season and there were mistakes, there were some enterprising periods of play, seeing Aplon cross the line twice and Kitshoff once.
The coach was also happy with how the new and younger players were adapting to the team and game at this level. “Depth is crucial in this competition and I am pleased with their performance.” said the coach.
There were no serious injuries and the focus now shifts to game two of the DHL Pre-Season Series, against the Cheetahs at Newlands on Saturday.
Quizzed by the media after the match on the appointment of Heyneke Meyer as the new Bok coach Allister Coetzee said ”It’s a very good appointment and I would like to congratulate him. He will always have my support.”

Looks like it’s not going so well for the embattled Lions…
… but then again, this is just a freegin warm-up game.
With 5 minutes to play, Lions still only on 6 measly points, Stormers all the way up there with 28
Are the Stormers supporters going to believe they’re invincible now, again?
Cheetah4eva,
I took down your Beast article, it was already up, a few hours ago.
3@ grootblousmile:Of course, why would we think any other way! Just walked back i from work, good score, looking forward to reading a synopsis of the game – strengths, weaknesses, etc. Bring on next weekend!!!
Hmmmmm word is the Lions beat the Stormers up in the scrums, and Lions got beaten up in the lineouts!
So the Lions lineout issues remain unresolved, and as usual the Stormers are still suspect in the scrums. With reports that Beast is out for up to three months, it seeems that the Bulls, and Cheetah scrums may have the early advantage!
Lol, no worries, I must have missed it!
Yup, sounds like we got mothered in the scrums, defence was string, according to the reports. I’ve counted 4 yellows for the stormers so far, Habanna, Gio, Koster and Steenkamp. Gio in with a brace, some iffy kicking, and Habs caught the flu again out there in the shadows. All in all, a good warm up, and certainly give Proudfoot some homework.
8 @ JFK,
Sounds like Mitchell has some homework too, if the Lions dominated the scrums, and made some forays, it seems they lack penetration. The question is, will Jantjies be the spark?
9@ Cheetah4eva:Apparantly Butch was his typical butchering self, so yes, I think Jantjies will make a big difference at pivot. We are so over these battering rams. Most defensive systems have worked the Butches of this world out.
Just picking up from post match prezzer, Des Fontein out for the season
