So, Kallis falls on 224.
Well done, would have been great if he could have gone on undefeated… but hey, who’s complaining!
Now AB must just go on to get his ton as well.
game back on
ideal oppertunity for rudolph to get some confidence back .. depending on the gameplan from here on in (ie. time of declaration etc)
SA declared on 580.
Kallis scored 224, AB de Villiers 160 not out, Alviro Petersen 109 and Rudolph finally got some runs and ended on 51 not out (maybe he bats better down the order a bit?)
The wicket certainly looks mild and tame, hope we can hit these Sri Lankans hard by taking some wickets!
Hello all looks like its been a goo day for batting at Newlands!
Missed most of the days play, SA amassed a pretty good total, but the SL’s although 2 down have shown what a good batting wicket it still is. The bowlers really need to contain the batsmen, probe outside that off stump, and hope that the pitch starts to do something soon. Morkel seems a bit up and down, the wicket he took was excellent, but I saw him getting a bit of tap when I walked in. Hope he has got his run up sorted
this could be a wicket, under review
Not out, but oh so close
Well thats it for todays play, missed 90% of it, so not much to comment on. Awesome displays by Kallis – 224, and de Villiers – 160 not out, took SA to a formidable total of 580 about half an hour before tea. This meant a couple of tough batting sessions for the SL’s. They lost 2 wickets before the close of play, and with 3 days left and no weather outlook, the SL’s will look to bat long and hard, and SA will hope to bowl them out and force the follow on as quickly as possible. Bring on tomorrow for a real game of chess.
Cheers all, catch up tomorrow
The Aussies are back with a big bang. In this test they are destroying India.

Australia have declared. It was supposed to be the drinks break but Clarke decided that 329 is more than enough for him, 150 for Hussey and a massive lead of 468
Tweet from Rajneesh Gupta: “First time in Test history that a side has posted two 250+ partnerships in the same innings.”
Sanju: “Ashwin falls just 5 runs short of beating Agarkar’s “record” of 161 runs without a wicket in Australia.”
India have close to two and a half days to bat out.
A very smooth passage of play for Gambhir. He looks more the batsman we all know, getting across and defending with assurance. His driving through the off side has also been top class. Sehwag missed out, but he was always going to chase the wide delivery.
Karthik: “When are we going to begin to question Sehwag’s usefulness to the Test team? The claim that he puts the opposition on the backfoot is a half-truth, he also gives them impetus when he throws his wicket away and exposes the middle order to the new ball. When did quickfire entertainment take the place of stable, reliable accumulation?”
To me he is and out and out one day player. I wont have him near my test side. He is simply too wild, and puts the opposition bowlers on a high from the start.
and with that i am out, i feel like a Aussie, watching their game but missing the ama-blommetjies aka The chokers game.
super @ 76
Q: how would you know when you’ve become a real aussie?
A: when you’re making sheep nervous!!
…
gooooooooooodmorning everyone!!
Morning folks…. hope we can demolish the Sri Lankans this morning!
Morning all – How does Superbul do it, does he not need any sleep? He works from dawn till dusk, had 1 day off in however many months, and still gets up at she ungodly hour to watch the Aussies. I need my sleep!
79 @ Just For Kicks:
My late dad, GBS Maksimus, used to say that somebody who cannot sleep is someone who has something to worry about… some crime or mischiff..
Hehehehe
wicket! sangakkara gone for 35!!
Good wicket to kick the day off, a few more won’t go unnoticed! GBS, I’m with your Dad!
why let morkel bowl? why not philander? come-on!!
82 @ Just For Kicks:
I take it your year kicked off at a hell of a pace with all the fruit picking & stuff?
I started working on the 3rd as well, but spent the 3rd and 4th working at half pace (deliberately)…. but today it is fully back into the swing of things here.
The only distraction today is that BonzaiGBS’s matric results will be available at the individual schools in the Western Cape at 12:00 noon, and will only be published online at the Western Cape Education Department site at 15:00 today, and it will appear in the newspapers only TOMORROW (Friday 6 Jan).
I’d like you to do me a favour if possible… can you get hold of an English newspaper tomorrow containing the results and mail me the newspaper?
We can’t get the Western Cape papers here, except for the fact that my wife, Handbriekie, will have Die Burger sent up to us here in the Media24 Envopack… which I suppose will arrive in JHB on Monday. The thing is, that is the Afrikaans newspaper and BonzaiGBS is actually English, so as a keep-sake it would be good if he has an English newspaper with his results in it.
83 @ Ashley:
Hello Asblik!
Halloooo almal!!!!! Happy happy and all that
i really cant understand why they didnt start philander with steyn … nearly got the edge there again … jeez!!
I remember how excited I was to get my matric results..
I was in Buffelsbaai at the time, having a whale of a time in the whole Garden Route… our only link was to phone for the results from the tickey box…
Got the results, and had a major piss-up braai on the beach…. got totally wasted… hehehe
ja nee vra Ash!!!!……..imagine Philander en Steyn open en dan kom Marchant en Morkel, dit sal nogal hectic line up wees
#88 ek het myne by die skool nog gaan haal hahaha
