A ton to Peterson, welcome back, and not too soon. Well done Alviro Peterson
Ah…at last someone is getting some runs!!!! Our front line batsmen better shine up and stop resting on laurels.
Well thats me done for the day – first working day of 2012, need a holiday already! Time to relax and watch a bit of some batting
Peterson gone in my absence, and since de Villiers has been at the crease, the runs seem to have dried up a bit. Must just about be time for the new ball.
Heyyyyyyy, well done Kallis… after 5 woeful innings finally a bloody good one!
Alviro Petersen, well done chap… you replace Prince and you’ve just showed him how it’s done! Well played 109!
Kallis already now on 147 not out… go for it Kallis!
Mister J Kallis Esq. moves on to 150 with the utmost of ease
AB de Villiers solid as well, AGAIN, now on 39.
Now tell me why Biff gets these misery totals!
Wonder how the other out of form man, Rudolph will go… surely if he fails AGAIN, then he’ll be dropped. It will be 10 consecutive innings at the end of this Test, if he fails again.
36@ grootblousmile:I some how have the feeling Rudolph will do better, now the pressure has been taken off him at the top. He certainly has the ability to go all the way, as I said earlier, I really believe it is a mental issue. It is something that we need to sort out quickly.
Stumps. Day 1. SA 347/3. It’s been a long old toil out there for the bowlers with very little success. They must have felt putting the South Africans into bat was the correct decision by Dilshan when he won the toss when the ‘chokers’ were 2 down. But with Peterson and Kallis at the wicket to stabilise the ship, thats where their luck ran out. 2 glorious tons by both of them gave the ‘chokers’ a healthy lead, and with Kallis on 159 and going strong, there doesn’t seem any respite for the SL’s. Peterson lost his wicket late in the day, and AB played within himself to get to 45 off 92 balls.
SA should easily get to 500/550 by lunch tomorrow, whereupon they will then have to begin thinking about putting the SL’s in to bat if they are to win this one. Good to see the ‘return to form’ of the ‘chokers, but really worried by the whole saga (read earlier post re mentality), and how it is to be rectified. Bring on tomorrow. Forecast good for whole match, so lets hope for a result, and our first series win since 2008
37 @ Just For Kicks:
I’ve got mixed feelings whether I want Rudolph to succeed this time around. He’s now showed a bad run of inconsistency / failing miserably / poor form…. maybe time for some new blood. If he suddenly gets a good innings, he won’t be replaced…. and I don’t know whether that will be good in the long run.
@ grootblousmile:Yup, long term, we need to be blooding some young guns, and with the core of Kallis, de Villiers, Amla being the core of the top order batting, now is the time, I feel. With the right players, we could have a formidable top 6 again.
Cheers all, see you on the morrow

Great insight to the game of cricket by REAL rugby men.
Guys this game is not for faint hearted guys, not for sissies. One good ball one milli second can either ruin your innings or save it. When a player is picked they first look at his eye co-ordination. His eyes are vital. Then experience , then patience and then some luck.
Kallis has all the right ticks behind his name. I knew he would do it, he is by far the best South African cricketer that played for SA, ever.
@ superBul:I am not really sure how to take your comment, but agree, he is the best cricketer to have ever played for SA. The only player to match him on the world stage is Garfield Sobers. Both have a similar batting and bowling ave, with Kallis having taken nearly 70 more catches than Sobers. For me, and I am biased, Kallis is not only the greatest all-rounder this game has ever seen, but in my mind, he is the greatest cricketer of all time. I also believe that if the South African cricket team had been a great team, and number 1 consistently whilst he was playing, the rest of the world would think so too. We are lucky, we have seen 4 greats in our lifetime – Brian Lara, Shane Warne, Sachin Tendulkar and Jaques Kallis. Why is it that the other 3 are seen as they should be, yet there is constant arguments about Kallis about how good he is? Is it because as South Africans, we can never be seen to be standing up for ourselves and telling the rest of the world the facts. We would rather criticise, ridicule and slate each other, it’s what we do best – just read keo if you don’t believe me. As South Africans, we’re just not good enough to be good enough, it’s as simple as that.
If they can offer MacCaw a knighthood, then they shouldn’t even bother offering it to Kallis, it should be shoved into his little paws….and he shouldn’t have to go to London to receive it, the Queen should come to him. One day, in a couple of generations time, people will ask, “what was it about Kallis that made him not as good as his stats show?”
Thats my rant.
Just For Kicks wrote:
It might be a bit confusing but i could not believe that some people called for his head earlier. To even suggest that his place is in jeopardy at this stage baffled me.

Lunch – Day 2
Molten Gold writes: “Opting to bat first was the epitome of foolishness on India’s part. What were they thinking – with an incompetent batting lineup that cannot stand up to a quality pace attack in fast, bouncy conditions and a spinner who can hardly be termed world class, India were ill equipped to both bat first and bowl last in this match. An innings defeat will be a just outcome for such atrocious planning.”
In both Test matches happening currently, the decisions at the toss seem to have backfired. We saw what happened to the Sri Lankans yesterday – 347 for 3 on day one. Can’t be good news!
First thing on the agenda post lunch will be Ponting’s century, he will be on strike. It’s been 34 innings since he last scored a Test ton.
Funny not many Australians asked for his head. They are simply more loyal. The commentators are a feast, if a Australian drops a catch they will find a good excuse for their player, but o my dear if the opposition does it they get lambasted.

HAPPY NEW YEAR to all RT friends.
Just another flying visit to see how everyone’s enjoying the rest while I keep the wheels of the SA economy turning.
Working like a Bastid but at least had a successful shutdown and installation the last week with only a few minor hitches.
Phew. Guess I can still design a thing or two half decently.
Cricket (both games) seem to be heading in similar directions, and Aviva Rugby seems to be producing tight games when I get to see them.
Roll on February and Super Rugby.
GBS, I need to speak to you re networks, websites, IT expansion etc. Things are just getting too hectic for me on my own, so I need to expand, but in a controlled and planned way.
I’ll try to give you a call early next week to pick your IT brain for the best options.
Cheers all.
Off to earn a Zim$ or two for the day.
Clarke shows how to grind the opposition to dust. The lead of 158 looks to get bigger and bigger and we’re only into the second day. This session will be remembered for Ponting’s comeback hundred and he too nearly lasted the entire session. Join us in 20 minutes for the final couple of hours.
Good luck Kallis follow Clarke with a even bigger 200 please, shut your critics up
australia lead by 291 runs with 6 wickets remaining … hmmm, wonder whether we’ll finally see that 100 of tendulcar that everyone’s been waiting for for a while now?
..
oh, and goodmorning everyone!
Hellooooooooo!
