Test in Australia rapidly progressing, it wont last 5 days , Players cant adapt to 5 day cricket anymore, this fast and furious game killed off the patience skills of players
India 191
Australia 11/2 (3.3 ov)
Australia trail by 180 runs with 8 wickets remaining in the 1st innings
Day 1 – Session 3
Hope you are right SB, and that the end of test cricket is near…
Hope the Proteas perform a lot better all round than in Durban. Some interesting selections, it seems Rudolph is very lucky to be there still, thought he would have been dropped for the test in Durban already, his highest score in last 7 seven test innings since being recalled is 44. Thought it may have been time to give a younger player like Dean Elgar the chance to show what he can do, at least he has been picked for the ODI’s. A bit tough on De Lange after his bowling in the first innings in Durban, but with Philander coming back some bowler had to go – Morkel very lucky too I think he hasn’t done that well either for a while. Oh well hope the two lucky ones prove me wrong.
Once again Biff fails with the bat, going out cheap (for 16), with the first ball of the 5th over, cutting it onto his own stumps!
SA 25 / 1 after 4.1 overs.
Why the hell this oke is still in the squad, and captain… is amazing!
Morning GBS, Happy New Year to you and your family – sounds like you had some good bonding time with the wannabe Santa Claus (beard).
Like Loosehead always says when he appears on the cricket thread – “has Smith come out yet?”. …….Well, just switched on, and, surprise surprise, he has been in – and out! well nothings changed then. Read an article in which Smith will stay as long as he feels he can contribute to the game. Mate, read my lips – “YOU ARE NO LONGER CONTRIBUTING, its really time to fall on your sword!”
5 @ Just For Kicks:
Hello kickers!
Happy New Year to you and yours too!
Had a good time, yes… Mr Bumfluff (BonzaiGBS) and I spent some quality time…. sun was hot yesterday. Was tired last night, you know how the sun sometimes manages to drain a lot of your energy…
About Biff…. I can only echo your sentiments!
As least Prince has been dropped for Alviro Petersen… Rudolph is lucky to be there still, so too Biff and Kallis.
Let’s see how Kallis and Rudolph goes in this Test, it’s redemption time for them – BIG TIME!
Nice 6 by Alviro…. he’s already done better than Prince did in his number of innings recently!
Alviro on 21 already, off 23 balls.
Big shout for LBW Amla, and he’s not appealing it – big wicket for SL. What has happened to our batting. With (and with all due respect) one of the poorer world bowling teams, and a bowling attack that is riddled with injury, thus weakening it further, we cannot sustain any serious period of batting. It is truly awful.
I saw, unfortunately not all of it, an interview between the ‘Doc’ and Kallis earlier. Was very good, Kallis really is a humble man, who has done so much for SA cricket, and is now putting so much back into it. What a man. Only thing that did double me a bit, was that has somebody been working on his IQ, because he sounded positively clever, and if so, whats the secret, because there are a few more in that team that could use the same medicine!
But for some very poor fielding by the SL’s, we’d be 4 down now, possibly more. Any stronger team would have pounced, and we would have been in a hole heap of trouble. Kallis has now hit 2 short balls in the air, the first should’ve been taken. He is struggling
Kallis starting to play himself back into form, after a very hesitant start. Smith, look and learn
goooooodmorning everyone!!
happy new year and best wishes for the year ahead!!
..
wanted to come on earlier, but waited for petersen’s 50 (didnt want to jinx the man, lol).
sa going well at the moment, hope we can keep it like this. petersen already have made a huge impact on the team … hope he gets a ton to rub the selectors’ noses in it!!
current partnership …. 67 runs, 13.0 overs, RR: 5.15 (Kallis 37, Petersen 30)
lunch on day 1
sa 135/2 (27 overs)
run rate: 5.00
Howzit Ashley, Happy New Year
So Smith is out as per usual.
Been popping in and out myself, and after an appalling start, the boys have dug in, but still kept the scoreboard ticking over. Kudos to Kallis, he is really playing himself back into form, and after a very iffy start, where he struggled particularly with the short ball, he has stuck it out, played some typical beautiful ‘Kallis’ drives and started to score some fast runs. We need to bat them out of the match here to show our dominance, Anything less simply will not do for any South African supporter
16@ Loosehead:He didn’t want to spoil your New Year
Kallis, 50 up. Well deserved
Pity that Amla went cheaply for 16 as well!
At least Kallis and Alviro Petersen are making a fist of it, both over the half-ton mark.
16 @ Loosehead:
Hello Loskoppie… Happy New Year!
14 @ Ashley:
Heppy, heppy, Asblikman!
Kallis on 99
Well done Jaque Kallis, brilliant, brilliant knock in the light of some of the negative criticism. A masterclass on how to play yourself back into form
Peterson now on 99 too
afternoon everyone … been away from my pc a bit ..
been
busy as a bee
bus busy busy!!
tea on day 1
sa 236/2
kallis 103*
petersen 99*
current partnership 180 runs from 41 overs
run rate: 4.39
Tea, Day 1, Test 3. A session of pure consolidation from the South Africans, with nothing to really write home about, but for a brilliant ton from Kallis. Peterson goes in to the tea break on 99, that last single just not coming in that final over before tea. The Lankans bowling has been wayward, short, wide and generally poor with the fielding leaving little to be desired. A run out chance just prior to the break from 15m should have hit the stumps to end Petersons run, but alas.
What this match has shown us so far, is just how mentally poor we are. The opposition, journo’s and fans are not wrong when the word ‘chokers’ is used to describe the team. It show how, when given a pitch that is not to our liking, we sulk, crumble and bitch – then lose. It’s just not good enough. The mental toughness just isn’t there, Kirsten really has to work on this. Again, I say, with Smith there, thats not going to happen. I don’t believe he is a leader with enough mental strength. We need a Waugh, an Atherton, a Fleming, or even a Hansie Cronje. There are still a few positions up for grabs, and a few of the players really need to knuckle down if they are to save their proverbial skins.
what do you guys think of the pitch? is it one that will bring about a result or will this all end in a draw?
28@ Ashley:Looks pretty good for batting at the moment! I do think though, that we have the fire power to bowl them out though, so yes, there will be a result, and 20 Lankan wickets will be taken. I don’t know the long term forecast, but if this heat continues, the pitch will start drying out, and offer a bit more assistance as the days go by
Kallis only just safe, pheweee
