Vodacom Bulls vice-captain Wynand Olivier suffered a slight setback in his comeback from injury when he broke a small bone in his wrist at the weekend.

Official Bulls media release

The injury will take three weeks to recover and will only prevent the midfielder, who is recovering from shoulder surgery and was due to take to the field in February anyway, from sharpening handling skills, team doctor Org Strauss confirmed.

“It is a broken bone, but luckily not that serious. He will not be able to do stuff like passing exercise, but should be back to full training in about three weeks.”

The Bulls will attend a three day training camp at Royal Marang Sports Palace near Rustenburg from Wednesday.

“We just need a little bit of a change of scenery,” Vodacom Bulls coach Frans Ludeke explained.

“The guys have been working very hard at Loftus, so we will break away and continue the hard work somewhere else for the next couple of days. I am very pleased with our progress this far,” Ludeke said.

Wynand Meisiekind was always only going to be back in full training around the 4th of February anyway, after recovering from Shoulder surgery.

Handling skills… won’t affect Wynand too much, he did’nt pass too often anyway… hehehe
(That line was for all the Meisiekind doubters)

Hope Wynand will be good to go at the start of Super Rugby, fully fit and conditioned too. Somehow these okes who’s had shoulder surgery always take a bit longer to come back fully… Fourie du Preez is a typical case in point.

In the meantime I hope Francois Venter is getting a good run and getting very familiar with Mornê Steyn at 10 and Johann Sadie at 13.
