All Blacks and now Chiefs star Sonny Bill Williams has announced that he will enter the boxing ring again next year just weeks before the Super Rugby season starts.
Rugbyweek
Williams has left the Crusaders and moved to the Chiefs but will fight for the New Zealand heavyweight title.
Williams, who has a clause in his New Zealand Rugby Union contract allowing him to pursue his boxing career, will fight Aucklander Richard Tutaki in Hamilton on February 8.
The 26-year-old former rugby league player, part of the All Blacks side that won the Rugby World Cup in October, has won all four of his professional boxing matches so far, two by knockout.
His latest bout will take place just weeks before Williams makes his Super Rugby debut for the Chiefs, after switching from the Crusaders in the off-season.
Tutaki, 33, has a record of 19 wins, 21 loses and one draw.
Well I hope he doesn’t end up looking like Margarito did after Cotto had finished with him on Saturday night / Sunday morning, cause if he does, he won’t see the tackles coming.
IMO it actually defies logic how the NZRU can allow this!
SBW has only fought against 2 journeymen, they were very kak boxers.
Marketing, marketing, marketing – unless I’m missing something, SBW is no better than other top players in NZ, yet they are making such a big thing about him, he is playing his cards perfectly. His marketing team know exactly what they are doing.

My head feels like Margarito’s face this morning… massive freegin squint headache!
daai ou het maar n poefie rekord, verloor meer as wat hy wen.laat sbw bietjie teen n bokser in die klas van mayweather boks dan sal ons sien ek dink as hy swaer gewig is moet hy sy staal teen n klichkow of so toets super over hyped ster wat hy is.
4@ grootblousmile:
Trouble is Margarito’s head is gonna feel like that for a week.
He took a massive beating, despite what he said after the fight.
You gonna come to London in March? England – Ireland at Twickers. Good long weekend jol.
