The Executive Council of the South African Rugby Union (SARU) has called a Special General Council meeting for January with a view to ratifying the appointment of the Springbok coach.
The meeting will take place in Cape Town on January 27, 2012 and is required by the SARU constitution, which specifies that the appointment of the Springbok coach has to be approved by the General Council to become official.
SA Rugby official release
The General Council (Previously known as the President’s Council) will receive a recommendation from the Executive Council (SARU Exco) which will meet 24 hours earlier to finalise the selection process.
SARU will make no further comment on the matter until an appointment is confirmed due to issues of confidentiality.
The Special General Council meeting will also decide on a process to identify SARU’s entrants to the Vodacom Super Rugby competition in 2013.
Note: The General Council of SARU is made up of two representatives from each of the 14 provincial unions (one of whom must be that union’s president), associate members of SARU and the Executive Council of SARU. The representatives of the unions and the SARU president are the members entitled to vote (29 in total).
So who is going to be?
Rassie and AC?
Nick Mallet?
Snor?
Gert Smal?
John Smit and Victor Matfield?
Eddie Jones?
If it is already decided… then my money is on Gert Smal… because I know Jurie Roux went to Ireland in the last 10 days.
1 @ Loosehead:
You had it a bit wrong Loskoppie…. the Bok Coach is not yet chosen, to be ratified later.
The Exco of SARU will have to finalise their decision 24 hours before this Special General Council meeting on 27 January 2012…
The Council then gets given the name of the Coach the Exco has decided on, on 27 January, they vote on it and upon majority decision the Springbok Coach’s appointment is Ratified by the Council…. which will basically come down to a rubber stamp of the decision already made by the Exco.
@ grootblousmile:
That is not how I read it, he is to be ratified on the 27th. That means he [or she] has already been chosen.
It is in the semantics, hence my original post.
4 @ Loosehead:
Read it again…
It reads:
“The General Council (Previously known as the President’s Council) will receive a recommendation from the Executive Council (SARU Exco) which will meet 24 hours earlier to finalise the selection process.”
