The New Zealand Rugby Union will name the new All Blacks coach ahead of schedule on Friday with Steve Hansen being the most likely successor Graham Henry.

Henry retired after winning the Rugby World Cup and the NZRU have said that they want the new coach to be in place before Christmas.

New Zealand won the Rugby World Cup by beating France 8-7 in October under Henry’s guidance and his assistant coach Steve Hansen is seen as his logical successor.

While Hansen is the favourite to succeed Henry he is not alone on the shortlist.

Clermont coach Vern Cotter, who worked wunder Robbie Deans with the Crusaders between 2005 and 2006 as his assistant coach, is also a strong contender.

Why oh why can New Zealand appoint a National Coach by Friday already, but we have to wait till 27 January?

    It makes me sooooo angry.

Why rush things? I mean the new coach will have the whole Super Rugby season to sort out his stuff.

    2 @ Lion4ever:
And if the new coach and some of his Assistants are Super Rugby coaches or Assistant coaches or supporting staff?

What then happens to that / those Super Rugby teams preparations and continuity in Super Rugby for 2012?

What if it is Gert Smal, what happens to forwards coaching at Ireland in the Six Nations?

No man, the bunch at SARU are doff, inept…. and leading us all by the noses and to the detriment of SA Rugby in general!

Are you telling me there has not been enough time since 23 October 2011 to identify and speak to and contract Snor’s successor… and have it ratified at the SA Rugby General Council. Does it have to take the idiots more than 3 months to make the right appointment?

    2 @ Lion4ever:
Let me give you a practical example…

Say wonder above wonders John Mitchell is appointed Bokke coach, Carlos Spencer is drafted in by Mitchell as backline coach, Mathew Proudfoot is drafted in by Mitchell as Forwards coach….

(not likely, I know, but still you can change the names around to the other possible candidates and the same applies)

Then when do the Lions appoint a new Super Rugby coach and backline coach and when does the Stormers appoint a new Forwards coach? How do they then go into Super Rugby?

    See my drift…

Same applies if it is Allister Coetzee or Rassie Erasmus or Heyneke Meyer…. or Gert Smal at Ireland.

The only time it would not be a major problem is if Mallett is appointed head coach, but we all know that is NOT going to happen!

GBS, I was saying it more tongue in cheek than anything else. But, point taken. I am with you on this one. The longer the new coach has to get his things in order, the better.

1@ grootblousmile:3 reasons – 1. SARU,as a group, are incapable of thought, 2. The Christmas Holidays – and as we all know, amongst the official offices, every holiday must have a holiday, thus their holidays are 3 times as long, 3. They knew all along that Hoskins was going to get the IRB job, so they’ve been planning the congratulatory party for the last 2 months, and have decided to have an extra holiday on the end of their extended holiday as a bonus for being so clever
