Steyn in as night watchman. Interesting.
Farkit, Rudolph has batted at a crawl for his 26…. 93 balls
Scheduled play 5.30, but a hand me down from ICC is to play as long as possible if play slow
Thats it. Time gentleman. Last session all SA, except for Biffs wicket a couple of overs from the end. Just what the SL’s needed to lift their spirits a bit They will come out firing in the morning, with the hope of a quick wicket in the form of Dale Steyn. Over all a very work like session for SA, with Rudolph managing just 27 from 98 balls. Very patient and workmanlike, and lets hope that sees him back into form. SA need to go on tomorrow and shut the SL’s out whilst they have the chance.
To end play something all the way from Yorkshire for you to ponder on:
Table-topping Dishforth were expected to beat bottom-placed Goldsborough in the Nidderdale Amateur Cricket League, North Yorkshire, but not quite as easily as things turned out.
Goldborough 2nd X1 came close to setting an unwanted record after ten batsmen were out for a duck. Not one of the Goldsborough players scored a single run; although they did clock up five extras.
Their opponents quickly knocked off the six runs needed for a win and the game was over. The Dishforth captain Steve Wilson, told reporters, ‘If I hadn’t seen it, I wouldn’t have thought it possible.’
The Goldsborough captain Peter Horseman commented, ‘It was surreal and embarrassing. We almost got a run, but the batsman turned it down because he’ d just been hit on the foot.’
125 @ Just For Kicks:
Hehehe
Fark, that is embarrassing!
Helloooooooooooo
Kickers, you happy to continue with the Updates…. I have to go fetch something in Pretoorsdorp in a little while.
Morning GBS, yeah, no problem, am in and out, but just in the vineyards, so will have an eye on the telly all day.
Well, a run out to start the morning off. Steyn out for 0.
Morning all, pitch report form this morning talking about the pitch drying up a bit after the rain a couple of days ago, and hardening up. The ball indentations caused by the sponginess of the pitch yesterday could create some uneven bounce. Otherwise, looks like a beautiful day, and hopefully a long batting one for the boys
128 @ Just For Kicks:
Thanks!
Goooooooo Ama-Artichokes!
To kick off today, I thought I’d post a few famous, infamous and perhaps unknown quotes from the cricket world Here’s the first:
“Mate, if you just turn the bat over, you’ll find instructions on the other side” – Australian fast bowler Merv Hughes to Robin Smith after the England batsman repeatedly played and missed
There is definitely something in the track to keep the bowlers interested, both Rudolph and Amla have had a couple of bad bounces, and both have seen balls catching the edge of the bat but flying just wide of the slips. They’ll have to be on their guard, but both these batsmen have the staying power, temperament and the patience stay occupy the crease for a while
134 @ Just For Kicks:
OK, see you later… let me do some low flying to Pretoorsdorp and back.
135@ grootblousmile:Enjoy it, I have no plans to leave the farm today – The holiday traffic on the N2 out of CT to Knysna is horrendous, so I hear
Wicket – Amla, bowled Perera, caught Mathews for 18. 125/3
“A very small crowd here today. I can count the people on one hand. Can’t be more than 30” – Michael Abrahamson
Wicket. Rudolph Bowled Perera, caught Para for44. – 136/4
Both Rudolph’s and Amla’s wicket show that if you bowl in the right area, you force them to play, and with the uneven bounce, anything can happen. It’s not easy out there, and the batsmen are having to really concentrate this morning
“Strangely, in slow motion, the ball seemed to hang in the air for even longer” – David Acfield
That last over showed Kallis in the way he should be remembered. A master. 3 X 4’s in the over. One to the cover boundary, one through mid wicket, and the last ball of the over, down through cover point
Kallis completely misjudged the length of the ball, tried to duck under it, and he’s been hit on the konk for his effort. He’s still down
Kallis is up, but very wobbly. Can’t stay on the field, surely…. No. he’s playing on.
“Tufnell! Can I borrow your brain? I’m building an idiot” – Australian fan to England spinner Phil Tufnell
Lunch. 168/3. Been an interesting morning. SL have taken 3 wickets, SA have scored 78 runs in the session. The pitch has been a bit uneven, and definitely contributed to a couple of wickets. Kallis got rapped on the noggin 15 minutes before lunch, and is definitely still seeing 3 balls leaving the bowlers hand at once. He knicked on to the keepers right in the second last over before lunch, but fortunately was dropped. It was a sitter, and the SL shoulders dropped a little. Honours even, I think, although it would definitely been in favour of SL, had the catch been taken
For lunch, I will serve an over with the famous FS Trueman:
Trueman bowls. Batsman is trapped plumb LBW. Trueman appeals. Not out.
Next ball. Trueman ever-so-slightly irritated. Trueman bowls. Audible snick, ball deflects and sails upward, caught behind. Trueman appeals. Not out.
Third ball. Trueman a little more irritated now. Trueman bowls. Through the gate, stumps spread-eagled, middle stump uprooted and cartwheeling. Trueman turns to the umpire and says with a wry smile, ‘We nearly had him that time, didn’t we?’
Lunch, now a thing of the past, to get the afternoon session underway, a famous quote from Sir Garfield Sobers:
It was a county match in England between Somerset and Glamorgan. An unknown batsman with unknown talent, named Vivian Richards was at the crease. Greg Thomas, the Glamorgan fast bowler thundered in and beat the great man’s bat.
‘It’s red and it’s round. Can’t you see it?’, the bowler taunted Richards.
The next ball was an action replay. The ball pitched three quarters of length on middle and off, seamed away, and once again Richards was all at sea and comprehensively beaten.
‘It’s red and it’s round and it weighs four-and-a-half ounces. Can’t you see it?’, Greg Thomas quipped.
Richards took a stroll, summoned his powers of concentration, swung his arms around, took a fresh guard and got ready for the next ball.
Greg Thomas came running in. The delivery was right in the slot, and Viv launched into one of his trademark shots and smashed the ball out of the ground and straight into the river that flowed around it.
The maestro told the hapless bowler who almost died watching the ball go, ‘You know what it looks like… now go and get it!’
Wicket. Kallis. Bowled Welegedera, caught Matthews for 31. – 173/5.
Kallis has not looked himself since that knock on the head, and it was only a matter of time. Donald summed it up at lunch, when he said Kallis was still ‘not feeling good, but he’s determined to carry on’
