Wicketttt! Samareerwa Bowled Philander caught Boucher for 36. – 156/4 Review taken and given
It’s that man Philander again. What a temperament, when the rest of the more established Proteas bowlers are failing dismally, he has just stuck to his game plan. He almost gets another knick of the gloves next ball, review taken. Hotspot shows it on the bottom hand. And Given. Wicketttt! Silva out Duck, bowled Philander, caught Boucher, 0. – 156/6
Philander on a hat trick
Brilliant over by Philander, 2 wickets for 3 runs, and had Perara dancing down the wicket as well – and missing
Wicketttt! Perera. Bowled Tahir, caught Kallis in the slips for 1. – 157/7. SL challenged. Lost. Great reflex catch by Kallis, as it came off Bouchers leg. Caught high, to the left, one hand as he was falling backwards
Wow, all of a sudden, and it’s been edge of seats stuff. 3 very quick wickets, and all appealed has made for some exciting stuff
Herath with a lofted cover drive over Philanders head has stated his intention. Game on.
Philander needs one more wicket for a fifer, which would make 3 in 3. C’mon boyo
Wicketttttt! Matthews Bowled Philander caught Kallis for 38. – 175/8. What a give away. Matthews comes dancing down the wicket again to Philander, who deserves his 3rd fifer in as many matches. Well Done Vernon.
Steyn back into the attack now, can they wrap up the tail quickly, I wonder?
Wickettttt! Welegedara Bowled Steyn for 4. 180/9
Wicketttttttttttt!!!!!!!!!!!! Duck. Fernando Bowled Steyn for 0. Lasted 1 ball. End of the SL innings.
Well, that was exciting. With SL cruising along happily after lunch, it looked like it was going to be a long session. between overs 28 to 40, it was hell to watch, with some very wayward bowling. But come the 40th over and Philander, that all changed, and we were given a master display of bowling, as he first stemmed the flow of runs, then started on his fifer quest. Tahir helped from the other end with a wicket of his own, and for the cherry on the top, Biffer brought back Steyn who wrapped up the tail in style. Tea has been taken
Rudolph was taken to hospital, and has a dislocated little finger. he should bat, but I haven’t heard if he’s back from the hospital yet.
As you dunk your rusk into your tea, here’s something to make you take your mind off that chunk thats just fallen off and sunk to the bottom of the cup:
Many cricket lovers will remember with affection the immortal Garfield Sobers hitting 6 sixes in an over; younger watchers may have seen Yuvraj Singh achieve the same feat. Not many people were able to witness Jamie Lee hitting 11 sixes in 12 balls.
Jamie Lee, 18, normally plays for Mildenhall Cricket Club’s First Xl but was playing for the Second Xl because of a shoulder injury; he is, in fact, known as a bowler which, say Will and Guy, makes the story all the more remarkable.
‘Luckily, my shoulder injury didn’t affect my batting,’ the teenager from Suffolk, England, cricketer told us with a broad smile. In the first over, Jamie thrashed all six deliveries from a spin bowler over the boundary. In the next over, Jamie, again, faced a spin bowler: this time he swung at the first ball – and missed; however, he middled the next five, chalking up 66 runs in just 12 balls. Incredible.
Jamie, who scored a further five sixes in his 132 not out, commented, ‘I smashed most of the sixes straight over the bowler’s head. It was a brilliant feeling. There were some polite claps when I got my first six and then the excitement mounted. People were cheering on the boundary and when I got my sixth six in a row, they just went mental.’
Not surprisingly his batting led Mildenhall to a swift victory: they beat the 208 runs knocked up by Walsham-le-Willows in a mere 13 overs – absolutely incredible.
Right, I have an irrigation pipe to fix. I will try to make it back for the start of the SA innings, but apologies if I don’t. GBS should be back anytime to take over and update y’all
Right, back in the saddle again, looks like not too much has happened, SA 31/0 after 10 overs, Fernando bowling, Smith on 25, Rudolph on 2
A big shout for LBW, Rudolph gets a good stride in, and looks like glove and pad together. Given not out, review taken. Not given. Thats SL 1 review down
Rudolph has taken 36 balls to get his first 4, and then a classic cover drive. The Rudolph of old.
Another LBW shout to end the over. Rudolph given not out, review not taken.
SL’s appealing for anything in desperation at the moment, that first ball of the over under Biffers bat, given not out.
As the game goes into a little lull, to keep you awake, a little titbit:
When England travel to the Asian sub-continent to play cricket we always hear that various players contract ‘ Delhi-belly’ or more correctly an upset stomach, possibly gastro-enteritis. Change of diet, differing hygiene, weather conditions are often sited as reasons for this malaise. February 2006 saw some five players unable to function properly on the tour in India.
This phenomenon was discussed by Peter Allen and Jane Garvey on their ‘ Drive’ programme on BBC Radio 5 live. Alec Stewart, the ex-Surrey and England wicket keeper/batsman and captain was interviewed. He acknowledged that food in the sub-continent could be a problem for English stomachs. He recounted how he took with him on tour 43 separate portions of chicken, mashed potato and broccoli and ate little else.
If this isn’t amusing enough on its own; when he arrived home in England the first meal his wife gave him………………………………..?
You can guess………………………………….yes, indeed – chicken with mashed potato and broccoli.
Tea. 45/0. Been a quiet session, with the odd appeal by the SL’s, getting more desperate towards the end. Biff has raced on to 38 off 65 has been flailing at a few. He certainly lives and dies by the sword. Rudolph, on the other hand has been far more circumspect, 7 off 49 balls. Definitely determined to play himself back into form. So to the rest of the innings, well, little movement, either off the seam or in the air, no turn for the spinner yet, all a little staid
Damn!
Missed the last 8 Sri Lanka wickets!
Looks like the Artichokes did well… only 180 all out by Sri Lanka!
83 @ Just For Kicks:
You did well… the Article & the comments look good…. I can go on holiday now and leave you in charge!
Hehehe
@ grootblousmile:Been having great fun!
84@ grootblousmile:Yeah, got very exciting as the wickets started to tumble
87 @ Just For Kicks:
Was at one of my suppliers in Midrand (one of 4 stops), and they had a TV there, saw Sri Lanka on 157 / 7…. so the last 3 wickets must have fallen rapidly thereafter?
Rudolph really starting to look like the Rudolph of old, pure style when he’s in form, and a pleasure to watch. Lets hope we see some more as he gets back into form.
@ grootblousmile:They did, Steyn looked the business, but it was a pleasure to see Philander land another fifer
