Former Stormers back Joe Pietersen has signed a two year contract to return from France and play Super Rugby for the Stormers again.
Pietersen took up a contract with French Top14 Rugby club Bayonne 18 months ago but has decided to return to Cape Town.
The speedy back can play at wing or fullback and will give the Stormers added speed in the backline after the recent signing of Bulls wing and fullback Gerhard van den Heever.
Pietersen played 21 games for the Stormers and 56 games for Western Province and was also an able goal kicker and played in the 2010 Super 14 final against the Bulls.
Pietersen will join up with the Stormers for pre-season preparation in December.
Joe Pietersen was very good in his last bit of duty at the Stormers before going overseas.
Does’nt look like he got too much game time overseas.
Who?….Oh yes, I remember him – tall good looking guy, black hair and a moustache. Tattoo on his forehead. Played lock. Well, welcome home buddie, make yourself at home, grab a beer from the brewery next door, and don’t worry, another player, and possibly a coach no ones ever heard of, may rock up at some stage.
2 @ Just For Kicks:
He’s more of a Percy Montgommery clone… a younger kakker one, mind you.
His defence was always suspect but he came right with that just before he left for France.
… better than Conrad Jantjes any day… much better
Dang, so I got it wrong, he must have been the blonde shorter one then. Never mind, he’ll wish he was taller – and wider as well, with the exodus of players from the Stad, he’ll have to be able to slot into any position, not only in the back line, but at prop and lock as well.
Why do WP let Engelbrecht and Sadie go, 2 players who could transform the WP backline? Then they go and buy a decent, but not brilliant old player?
Who can you see being more influential for WP to win a trophy? Engelbrecht and Sadie or Pieterson?
And in other news……………..Adrian Fondse has signed with Newcastle and is lost to the WP / Stormers.
Always thought he has potential this guy. Good attacking player, good step and some real pace. Good kicker as well. More of a ball player than Aplon I think. Maybe not as fast as Aplon but he varies his pace better and read the situation better. Will be intersting to see whether his stunt over in Europe has improved his game or not.
I wondered what had happened to him, was more than a decent player, thought he was quite a useful full back, agree with GBS, way better than Jantjes!!!!
I was punting this guy for a Bok tryout before he got injured and then bailed. He gives us good depth at fullback….an exceptional player at his best if he can maintain his best. But if he is a Gaffie du Toit we can do without him. Lets see how he goes.
