New Zealand rugby legend, Carlos Spencer has revealed that he has no immediate plans to return to his home town of Auckland in New Zealand.

He has stated that he had no intention of returning to his home town when he left Auckland to play rugby in England. The 35 test veteran has said that he has few regrets, the chief of them being that his children do not see their grand parents that often. He has extended his initial 2 year contract with the Lions by another 3 years. He and forwards coach Johan Ackermann are part of the formidable coaching team headed up by former Kiwi Coach and player, John Mitchell. King Carlos, as he is called has had an amazing impact on the Lions backline play in general, and on the play of a certain no 10 by the name of Elton Jantjies.
Spencer has also indicated that he would be staying in South Africa beyond his 3 year contract with Lions, and is considering business opportunities in South Africa once his contract is up.
As adventerous as his play was in his heyday, there is one thing that he has not emulated since his playig days in New Zealand, and that is arriving at practices on his Harley Davidsin, as he believes the taxi drivers in South Africa are a bit crazy. On his fitness, he maintains that he is as fit as ever.
I for one am extremely pleased that he is staying in South Africa in general, and with the Lions in particular. His influence on the players has been immense. This was one of the best moves that that Dick Muir, former head coach of the Lions and incumbent Springbok back line coach did in his unsuccesful stint as Super 14 coach in 2010, when he contracted Spencer as player/coach. Spencer has sinced relinquished his playing duties and concentrated on coaching with the highlight so far in his coaching career with the Lions winning the Currie Cup for the first time in years, and the first time since the 70’s winning it at home.
Good on you Carlos!!
Great asset, you better check his contract and escape clauses. Oooh yes lately you guys are doing it right
@ superBul:
Are they?
News and flow of information is VERY QUIET from Doornfontein.
The CEO, Manie Reyneke left at the end of October, and no appointment has been announced as yet.
Let’s see what the New Year brings. Ons swallow doesn’t make it summer, but it may well signal the coming change of season!
@ Scrumdown:
Things are very quiet at the moment. Last news letter I received was advertising the Christmas Season Ticket special
