The RFU put money behind the bar for England players on their controversial Rugby World Cup night out in Queenstown, New Zealand.
The Daily Mail have revealed that England team operations manager Tom Stokes sent the players an email which stated that the RFU had pre-arranged the night out.
The email said that a section had been reserved “in town called Pub on the Wharf from 19.30” and ended with “yes, there is a tab”.
That day England played – and beat – Argentina in the Rugby World Cup and then dinner was served in the team hotel at 7pm, with drinks laid on later by the RFU.
It appears that some of the players started in the RFU arranged pub and then went on to the Altitude Bar where the now infamous incident took place with dwarfs.
The events that followed the led to England Vice Captain Mike Tindall being removed from England’s elite player squad and fined £25,000 by the RFU.
Wonder who won the drinking competition… England or Zac Guildford?
Lekkerrrrrrrr klomp dronkieeeshhhhh, daai schpullll Ingellssshe… flokkers!
hic… hic… hic
I would have thought that having a tab for the players wouldn’t be that out of the ordinary, you’d just think that the players were grown up enough (especially the VC) not to abuse it
