I started watching it a bit late and missed a few awards, i will catch up soon and keep all posted.
Great tributes to John Smit and Victor Matfield
Schalla, good choice! Had a massive World Cup and played almost every game possible this season. Also led the Stormers quite far this year.
@ vanStraaten:
Agree. For me Burger was a massive disapointment at the WC.
He has cultivated an annoying habit of turning his back just before making contact with his would be tackler, thereby killing all forward momentum.
I was somewhat disapointed by all of the senior players this year, and honestly didn’t think that any of the nominees deserved the accolade.
If any, and only because he’s retireing, Victor was MAYBE slightly my favourite, but as I’ve said before, WTF do I know anyway.
Oh, and just for what it’s worth, I think it’s something of a travesty that Boland / Loffie weren’t recognised in some way.
The way in which they took the CC 1st division by the scruff of the neck was truly inspirational. Cheeky must still be wondering what happened.
@ Scrumdown:
dOWN , YES YOU SUM IT UP PERFECTLY, THINK THE wATSONS ARE STILL REELING. tHEY NEVER THOUGHT THAT bOLAND WOULD SPOIL THEIR PARTY.
sORRY FOR THE CAPS i did not want to shout it out.
Sorry, maar stem nie saam nie. Schalk is vark….period.
7@ superBul:
I see now that the whole idea of cutting the CC Preier down to 6 teams is up for discussion again.
I was told by a VERY RELIABLE source a couple of months ago that EP had been promised a place in the Premier division, but how can they now get that when they couldn’t even finish on top of the 1st division log? Hence the re-think now.
I won’t be surprised if we see a set of promotion relegation games planned for just before the stsrt of the CC season next year.
Eish. Far too many back door deals and promises in SA Rugby.
Likewise, the Kings were promised Super Rugby status in 2013. At whose expense now?
It borders on the criminal what goes on behind the closed doors of SARU.
@ Scrumdown:
anything to do with the EP Kings and the Watsons are back door deals. they should eran it like all the smaller unions have had to earn it and play their hearts out!!! And I can bet you that the EP Kings have much more funds than the other smaller unions!!!!

I wonder if Justin Wheeler is Tony Wheelers boy?
Bit surprised to see Schalk get it…but we get used to him, he actually just does it week after week, as I’ve said before, his worst day is better than a lot of guys best days. I’ll say it again re Cheeky Watson….I admired his stance in the 70’s because it was BS not allowing guys to play rugby where they liked….athletics had integrated, Football had integrated but not rugby. But his behaviour since he has pals in government is as bad as the Nat supporters ever were and he has gone against all principals of “fair play”. F*ck you Cheeky…jy’t jou gat gesien…the only way you can redeem yourself is to insist that the Kings DO NOT get promotion. Why don’t you bugger off some corner and keep out of sight….and take your son with you. Spitting on the Springbok jersey indeed. I shudder when I think of what SARU are going to dream up this year….and our top coaches by withdrawing from selection are not helping…they SHOULD make themselves available…and keep on fighting. I haven’t even begun to formulate a Bok team in my head yet!
Suffice to say the Springbok team is at risk of becoming mediocre….a lot of good guys are just going to Europe and staying there if they can.
