JP Pietersen trained with the Springboks as they continued their build-up to the World Cup quarterfinal in Wellington on Thursday morning.
The Bok right wing was confirmed in the team that was announced earlier in the day, but it was pending a fitness test. The Sharks player had struggled with a knee tendon problem during the week and was unable to run until Thursday.
According to Bok coach Peter de Villiers, Pietersen came through the practice okay. However two players who are missing from Bok activities at the moment are star scrumhalf Fourie du Preez and reserve scrumhalf/wing Francois Hougaard. The pair have come down with gastro and were in bed on Thursday.
“I don’t think it will be a problem for either of them, we still have some time to go before the game,” said De Villiers.
The Boks feel they have completed the bulk of their preparations for the match, with a rest day scheduled for Friday before the captain’s practice will round off the build-up on Saturday, the eve of the game.
