As a neutral for the match, maybe it would be good to give my opinion about some players who were not on form at all today.

I thought that JP Pietersen was ordinary.
Frederic Michalak was ordinary and it might have been good to move Lambie to flyhalf early in the game.
Beast was blown often for scrum penalties.
    Skeate was nowhere.
Hoffmann was far below ordinary… maybe a lot of the Sharks backline woes can be ascribed to him.
    Sharks midfield was just terrible.
Odwa Ndungane looked old and slow.
The Sharks lineout misfired worse than an old Zephur!

Beware of hailing the Lions players as “Sudden Bokke” but credit has to go to a number of players…

The Lions loosies and loosie subs were superb.
Bondesio’s service was crisp and he made no mistakes.
Jantjies was in bloody good form.
Hollenbach and Doppies controlled the midfield.
    Killian was electric.
Taute is a man who must be very close to Bok contention.

Above all, there was unbridled passion and guts from the Lions, who with a great coach has become quite a team with awesome defence.

I thought in the Sharks outfit that Bismarck du Plessis tried very hard, so too Jannie du Plessis, Jean Deysel, Willem alberts… even Kankowski. Lambie was inventive, but had very little backline support.

Lets hope that over the next year those figures double!

  • 255

On the back of that Lions victory, there are a number of players who can be looking at bok spots in the near future

  • 256

    255 @ Just For Kicks:
Looking at this game… as well as the past season, SA player stocks are not bad at all.

Fullbacks: Jaco Taute, Pat Lambie, Riaan Viljoen
Right wings: Michael Killian, JJ Engelbrecht, JP Pietersen
Outside centers: Jaque Fourie, Juan de Jongh, Johann Sadie, Doppies le Roux, Robert Ebersohn
Inside Centers: Francois Steyn, Jean de Villiers, Alwyn Hollenbach, Francois Venter
Left Wings: Bryan Habana, Lwazi Mvovo, Sibusiso Sithole
Flyhalves: Morné Steyn, Pat Lambie, Elton Jantjies, Johan Goosen
Scrumhalves: Francois Hougaard, Charl McLeod, Dewaldt Duvenage, Michael Bondesio, Sarel Pretorius, Jano Vermaak
No 8: Josh Strauss, Pierre Spies, Duane Vermeulen, Ashley Johnson, CJ Stander, Ryan Kankowski, Willem Alberts
Blindside Flanks: Juan Smith, Willem alberts, Josh Strauss, Michael Rhodes, Arno Botha, Kolisi, Ashley Johnson, Dewald Potgieter, Jacques Potgieter, Jean Deysel
Openside Flanks: Heinrich Brussow, Schalk Burger, Derick Minnie, Keegan Daniel
No 5 Locks: Andries Bekker, Juandre Kruger
No 4 Lock: Flip van der Merwe, Gerhard Mostert, Rynhard Elstadt
Tighthead Prop: Jannie Du Plessis, Werner Kruger, WP Nel, Pat Celliers
Hooker: Bismarck du Plessis, Chiliboy Ralepelle, Adriaan Strauss, Bandise Maku, Tiaan Liebenberg
Loosehead Prop: Beast Mtawarira, CJ van der Linde, Coenie Oosthuizen, Dean Greyling

A decent coach can pick one hell of a side and mesh them into a monster Springbok side!

Positions where I would like some prospective Bokke to stick up their hands for future honours, or to add depth to meagre stocks are:

    Right wing
    Left Wing
No 5 Lock – a name for the future might be Eben Etsebeth, the upcoming young WP man
    No 4 Lock
    Tighthead Prop

  • 258

Congratualtions to the Lions supporters, you deserve this one.

I loved the statement Doppies le Grange made after the match.

“John Mitchell took a bunch of ordinary guys and made them do extra-ordinary things”

  • 259

    Well done Lions.

To the Lions supporters here. Congrats to all the Lions supporters here. Well done to your Lions on beating my team. Enjoy the celebrations.

Was great to see a full Ellis Park again. Very good for South African rugby to have a good Lions team again.

  • 260

@ grootblousmile:256 – Agree gbs. Sharks should have moved Lambie to fh or rather have started with him there. Odwa would have been safe at fb.

Hope to see Lambie starting at fh for Sharks next year.

  • 261

    256@ grootblousmile:
I hope that I never see CJ Van der Linde, Dean Greyling, Werner Kruger, Keegan Daniel, Pierre Spies, Ryan Kankowski, Charl Mcleod and Morne Steyn weraing the Green and Gold of the Springboks again.

  • 263

    262@ superBul:
    Hoe meen jy huh?

  • 264

    @ Loosehead:
Gooi jy sommer almal weg.
