Wales gave us a rugby lesson today. We were shyte to be honest. We lost everything except on the scoreboard.
We only played for the first 7 minutes and again for about 15 minutes after Hougaard came on.
Our micro skills are just not good enough and that is why we have no consistency with ball in hand. We lost the ball to many times as we go to ground.
What really worries me is that teams like Wales and Australia are getting better year by year while we make no progress in terms of being consistent when we run with the ball.
This team will have to step it up big time or they will be heading home soon.
Did you guys know my second name is Naas. We are both so positive we could have been one person.
@ McLook:
Agree , like i said earlier , this is a steal.

Schalk aims for the ground , he deliberately goes to groud, OK first try and smash into a guy with his back turned. Who the hell taught him that?

Well we must reach some sort of peak within 3 weeks from now.
What things to fix before the next game?
1. We need an extra loosie, in the form of Bismarck du Plessis at hooker, someone who plays directly to the ball and is massive on the ground.
2. Our forwards need to far more clinical and like McLook suggests, be better in the micro-situations.
3. Dicipline needs to improve.
4. We need to respect and protect possession better.
5. Body positions going into contact needs to radically improve.
6. We need to stay out of our half more, the pressure on us was massive at times.
Lets face it we stood there waiting for them to play, a sort of arrogance. We must realise to get back in form will need us to climb in head and nails, we cant get better if we hold back.
Do yourself a favor and accept that Peter will play JS before Bismark and look at another scapegoat. JS was not that bad, he withstood the onslaught from them and by the time BdP came up the Welsh were not that fresh anymore. We can do much better by standing by our captain than wishing for him to disapear. Finished with my defend JS session.
We allowed Wales to play, and most of the time were like scrum inspectors. We dont climb in and drive them over. But whatch it this team will strart again bar injuries.

@ McLook:Agree whole heartedly with your sentiments, was a big lesson for us, non more so than learning that poor old John and Habs are just not up to it at the moment. Whilst they both played their hearts out, and played reasonably well, we saw what a difference Hougie and Bissie made. Winning by one point is just to risky to say that they are impact subs, they have to be on from the beginning if we have any hope of doing well. Well done Wales, you played us at our own game and rumbled us on numerous occasions. We just have to improve dramatically. Butch had a very ordinary game, he really needs to learn to lift those arms a bit. Lambie would have been a much better option.
“”It wasn’t a rugby Test, it was a test of character. I think that we got our starting XV right, and the bench made the difference in the second half. They upped the tempo and put the opposition under pressure. ~ Peter de Villiers, Springbok coach ~
The moment Francios Hougaart came on the wing position came alive, why are the other more experienced wings so lazy?
New Zealands wings showed us the way so many times. Just Look where did FH scored the try from.
Du Preez had a tough call to make when his team was given a penalty opportunity in the 63rd minute. He elected to kick for the corner, and the Boks controlled the possession and then stretched the play across the field, showing good patience before eventually a hole opened up for Hougaard to burst through off a short pass in front of the posts for a try similar to the one he scored for the Bulls against the Stormers in last year’s Super 14 final.
SA Rugby Ratings
21: Francois Hougaard – 8 (60th min)
A match-winning cameo off the bench, the versatile Hougaard was like a breath of fresh air. He showed the veteran specialist wingers how to go out looking for work and this high work rate saw him score the decisive try.
Well….we can only improve from here….lacklustre performance to say the least. A few players stood out.
Beast ok, Smit average, Jannie ok, Guthro good game, Bismarck good game, Victor lousy, Danie average, Muller ok, Schalkie good game, Pierre crap, Heindrich good game, Willem good game, FdP average, Morne’ ok, Jean average, Mossie good game, Brian average, JP lousy, Francois good game, French Francois good game.
@ 4man:
in the two Programs on Supersport today, All out Rugby and Master Plan NZ the commentators was not nearly as pesimistic as some of us. John Mitchell on MP NZ reconned that this is a great win against a very highly motivated team and for him it was like a knockout match.
Div recons it is a brilliant win and Naas and Garth Wright on two seperate programs also feel this was a good win and right for this stage of the WC.
I feel that Wales has played out of their skin and cant improve on this game, thia was their best. We were standing waiting for them to smash at us, it almost looked for me like we are standing at the rucks like people around a open grave, all looking in at it and not doing anything. No counter rucking until the reserves came on, it must have been team instructions, some commentator said we tackle for the upper body and not at the ankles.
My own feeling after the relief is that we did well and learned more out of this knockout situation than the Wallabies and ABs in their easy wins.
Captain John Smit said the weight of expectation from a demanding South African public had led to “extra pressure” on the team, but was left “delighted” by the result.
“I’m delighted we got through. There was huge pressure from back home and there were a lot of nerves,” he said.(what about the calm that experience should have brought in)
“The tournament’s about only one thing. It’s only about results in the World Cup.”
Smit played down concerns over South Africa’s performance, saying that while it was not at its best, the Welsh also managed to make life very difficult.(again experience whats itworth then)
“Wales played well,” he said. “We didn’t have the chance to play. They flooded the breakdown pretty much everywhere.(while we stood there watching and tried almost no counter rucking) The performance was not at its best but we can take a lot out of it.
“The boys have been around for a while. There was a lot of calm.(calm my ass, the pre match shouting in the huddle by you have signalled the panicky mood) They have huge belief in each other.
“It was just hard to get into their half.”
In the end John is right in many ways and he can rightly say Looks at the scoreboard. We came out on top against a very good Wales team.
PS. Gatland is right about the unawarded 3 pointer, that would not necesarily mean that Wales would have won, it might have woken up the Boks earlier if they lost the lead back then. That happened too early in the match to claim a victory from that. Kudus to Gatland.
Div: Brilliant start for Boks
Watch the reaction on this headline today.
“What a brilliant start for us,” said De Villiers. “We always knew it was probably going to be tough.( that word my dear coach sums up the Boks attitude for me)
“It was very hard. I enjoyed this one.
“They never allowed us to get going. It was a test of character. We came to win the first one and we achieved that goal,” he said.
Is it only me? Am I the only one that thinks that Wayne Barns tried his utmost to stop our momentum. If you want to find fault start with him. It started right after we scored the first try and he only let us gain momentum again in the last 20 minutes.
If you don’t agree with me go watch the replay of the game or learn the rules. The Biggest cause of our display and the narrow win. Boks you did damn well to win the game. An inexperienced side would never have won this one.
Dear Wayne Barnes, since when is it legal to enter the ruck from the side. Since when are you allowed to compete for the ball whilst lying on the ground? Since when is there no need for the tackler and assist tackler not to release the ball carrier?
I was furious at Wayne Barnes. He effectively took the momentum away from us.
@ rugbybal:
after Saturday i tried to stay out of comments about refs but you are not the lone voice, i read similar views on Voldys, Rugby Heaven and another( i think Supersport) something like that was also mentioned on the RWC program Master Plan NZ by the panel.
@ rugbybal:
I felt that barnes stopped our momentum and poossession in the second half, every time we did have possession we would be penalised.
When Francois Hougaard was penalised when he tried to run out of our 22 on the 72 minute mark, Warburton was the tackle assist and never released Hougaard, so that should have been a penalty to us, I was remarking to my wife at the time, it would be justice if that kick missed.
Then there was another situation when we attacked deep in the Welsh half, where Warburton again came from not even the side, he entered the area from our side got his ahnds on the ball, and we were penalised for holding on.
@ biltongbek:
Me and my wife also went mad with that 72 min penalty wishing it to miss, and shouted justice when he did miss.
All 3 refs in that match must be sent home if IRB is serious about the game.
Refs from NH and SH are fundamentally different the SH is reffing according to all the changed rules, the stuff that Barnes let Wales get away with is stuff that happens in Premier League games week after week. Our team should be experienced enough to realise this and adapt accordingly. NH refs favour the team going forward and this is why the reffing looks skewed. You will see NH teams battling with SH refs, because they WILL NOT allow infringements at the break down. Barnes will be put right by the reffing panel. Tough game and I said somewhere else (think it was facebook) exactly what Super said, this was Wales game of the tournment and they have gone over their peak now. With Fiji and Samoa to come they will be lucky to make the next round….there is also the matter of depth, they don’t ahve that many good backup players. I love the home countries, but they have a way to go (Scotland, Wales, Ireland) Scotland is my “other ” team, my Mom is an 1820 Scot. I hope to see them give England a klap.
