Wallaby winger James O’Connor has been ruled out of Australia’s Rugby World Cup match against the USA with a strained hamstring.

Twenty-one-year-old O’Connor had a scan which showed no serious damage but the Wallabies have decided to take a cautious approach.

O’Connor is expected to return for Australia’s Rugby World Cup pool match against Russia next Saturday.

Australia have been hit hard with injuries already during the Rugby world Cup and desperately missed David Pocock and Stephen Moore against Ireland.

The Wallaby backline also missed winger Digby Ioane in last weekend’s loss.

O’Connor is usually the Wallabies place kicker when he is selected and he is expected to be replaced by Drew Mitchell and Quade Cooper should take over the kicking duties.
