Bok coach, Peter de Villiers will have a selection headache at loosehead prop on his hands as the RWC reaches the business-end of the tournament.

Both Gurthro Steenkamp and Beast Mtawarira came through Saturday’s match against Fiji unscathed and with rave reviews, but it begged to ask the question who will be De Villiers ‘go-to-guy’ when the tournament reaches the knockout rounds.

Steenkamp scored his maiden RWC try in the 49-3 win and lauded his fellow loosehead who came off the bench for him.

“Beast deserves a lot of credit, because he played very well after he came on. I think that he is playing excellent rugby and you actually want a situation where the substitute maintains a high standard.

“It is always special for a loosehead to score a Test try and it is my first try in the RWC. I will always carry this memory with me,” he told Monday’s Die Burger.

He went onto say that although their was a constant reshuffling of the second row against Fiji, the Boks’ performed admirably in the scrums, but he admitted that there is still room for improvement.

“Yes, we must improve. We are happy at the victory over Fiji, but realise that we still have a long way to go. We do not view the next match against Namibia as an easy match at all and want to build on this performance.”

Daai prentjie sal my altyd bybly!

I think we were all a little worried about Gurthro because of his long injury break, but he has improved with every match and I think he should be the starter with Beast coming on as soon as Gurthro’s perfromance starts to drop.
