The Ford Pumas hosted the MTN Golden Lions at Mbombela Stadium, Nelspruit at 19:10 SA Time. This was the match thread for discussion of the game. The match was broadcast live on SuperSport 1, SHD & CSN on TV in SA.
It was a game of 2 halves, with the Lions dominating the 1st half and the brave Pumas dominating the 2nd half.
Well after the final hooter, the Lions managed to get their bonus point for tries, via replacement Johan Snyman.

As I suspected, the Lions got sucked into playing the Pumas’ type of game in the second stanza and could well have paid dearly. The Pumas’ have a very abrasive forward orientated game, and have shown constantly this year that they can take on any side up front.
Free State are the only side to have torn the Pumas apart for a full game, and they didit by giving the ball air in a controlled manner.
When the Lions approached the game thus in the first half they were extremely effective and scored tries, when the Pumas kept it tight in the second half the Lions k@kked somewhat.
Still, 5 points in the bag, and if the can beat Griquas at the Coke tin next week, and then take some points in Potch the week after, a play off place should be in the bag.
Now the Bulls must give the Sharks a snottie later today.
I heard a rumour from a recently retired Provincial player that the Kings have been GUARANTEED a CC premier place next season, and that the team ending 6th will have to play 1st division next year.
SARU busy cooking the books again? Ah well, I suppose the Lions are urinating on their batteries somewhat with their surprise showings thus far.
If it is true, and Griquas end 6th, I think they’re doomed, but it’ll be interesting to see (if the story is true) what happens if the FS, BB or Sharks end up in 6th spot.
