Can you believe it, it is our birthday here at Rugby-talk!
Rugby-Talk now stands a full 2 years old…. naughty as hell and more fiddly than the average 2-year old.
I think a hearty congratulations is in order!
Thank you, everybody, for your participation in making Rugby-Talk what it is, a friendly Rugby News Forum and wonderful chat site, dedicating itself to South African Rugby!
There are some plans in the offing to rejuvenate Rugby-Talk a bit. First and foremost I need to increase the load speed dramatically. The slow load speed is a direct result of primarily 2 things, namely:
- The size of our Database: With 2 years of Articles ingrained in the site (3737 Articles) and about 2.5 million page impressions – we only officially started counting them from 31 October 2009 and that figure stands at well over 1.88 million page impressions – the Database has reached a size which most web hosts would become uncomfortable with. The database also now already consists of 254 Published Pages, in addition to the amount of Articles.
- The Web Hosts: We have simply outgrown our Web Host, to be frank, which means we are severely affected when we get busy, with lots of traffic flowing at the same time. To have the site hosted as a web site on it’s own on a dedicated server is prohibitavely expensive, seeing as I fund the whole operation from a private pocket, therefore we are hosted on a server which also carries / hosts a number of other web sites.
The solutions are simple, yet time consuming and we need to do the following:
- Migrate to another Web Host, at some cost and having the effect that we might be off-line for a few hours. This has to be done sooner rather than later and I would foresee me doing this in about 2 weeks from now.
- Delete some of the Archicves, maybe only having the Archives available since about a year ago. That is also not so simple, with 3737 Articles to list and manually deleting the first lot… with certain exceptions. It is a time intensive excercise.
You might also have noticed that I have taken some content off, for the meanwhile, to help ease the predicament in the meantime. This should be gradually phased back as time is spent streamlining the web site.
Where are the balloons?
Have FUN!
Regards,
Congratulations Rugby Talk…
Have I really been here for 2 years? 😯
Anyway, really well done boys, looking forward to lots more chats and laughs during the World Cup
To all the well wishers… thanks… and thank you for your contributions!
Gooooooooooooooi Mieliesssssssssssss
Here is a slice of the readership of Rugby-Talk.
We are read from all over the globe.
Congrats GBS and Rugby-Talk, on an important milestone, well done, you are THE global rugby site of choice!!!
I like the confluence of ideas and opinions on so many rugby matters we find on RT. As a burnt-out old winger, I often rely on points that are highlighted by the likes of Loosehead and other former forwards, in relation to other facets of play that I am not as experienced with. The vast amount of technical know-how that gathers at this site is awe-inspiring and the culture of polite discussion rather than drag em out battles of ego are a credit to GBS and Superbul.
I wish Rugby-Talk many more years of inspired chatter about the Game They Play in Heaven!
Awesome, congrats RT. Woa it’s been 2 years already
Yippeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

happy birthday Manne…..kan jy dit glo, twee jare al.
I am glad to see the guys in Afghanistan are supporting us….and two sites in Venezuela….seriously weird….unless its us Saffers that creep in anywhere!!!
Has anyone read the latest Wilbur Smith Book.
The main character is a Saffer who was in the SAS and he gets invited to a palace function by his client.
Prince Philip says to him “you Africans seem to get into anything” and he replies “yes, Greeks and Africans do get into most places”….I laughed for about 5 minutes. But apparently this is the way to treat Philip and he appreciates it. I suppose Wilbur Smith (another African who grew up in Zambia and went to school in Natal) may have personal experience of this. He loves rugby and has also probably accessed the site!
GBS, please send me your bank account details ie account number and branch code…I don’t need the I-BAN no, I will transfer money within South Africa.

Hallo superbul.
@ biltongbek:
Nee kyk oom Peter is nie so oortuigend soos Jake was nie, Jake het prontuit gese wie sy span is en hy het reguit gese judge me on the WC. Peter skimp net so iets, maak my al meer senuagtig. Hy is bang om reguit ons in ons peetjie in te stuur.
Well bless my cotton socks.
Firstly THANK YOU to GBS and superBul. The amount of hours you both put in so that WE can have a place to indulge our love of RUGBY is immense.
Congratulations on a great site.
Secondly, to ALL who contribute to making RT what it is, no matter who you blindly support, thanks and keep it up.
Lets all try to get the number of bloggers up and truly make RT the blog site of choice WORLDWIDE.
@ Scrumdown:
Yes with the World cup we will get a lot more here, we must get togheter during the matches. I see Namibia has named their team. I will start a RWC 2011 Section tonight and try to keep it up to date. In true R-T fasion before most other sites.
The birthday party is over, the guests have left, the tables cleared and the dishes and cutlery are all being washed.
The empty bottles are in a few bins… man can these okes drink!
It was a good party though, with 2 of our friends rocking up with unexpectedly nice presents, which WILL be put to good use!
@ grootblousmile:
hell I didn’t even get an invitation!!…..not that I could have attended!
51@ 4man:
What you mean… you were one of the 2 who brought the nice pressies!
It was a virual party man, right here on this thread!
I was speaking metaphorically!
Geluk aan RT met julle verjaarsweek. Aangesien ek die dag gemis het.
