Wallabies half back Luke Burgess has been given the all clear to return to rugby to face the All Blacks this weekend in the Tri-Nations.
Burgess suffered a fractured hand playing for the Waratahs in their play off against the Blues in Auckland five weeks ago but could come off the bench this weekend at Eden Park.
Wallaby coach Robbie Deans confirmed on Monday that the 27-year-old No.9 has fully recovered and is therefore back in contention for the Tri-Nations and Bledisloe Cup as support for Will Genia.
Deans is expected to name his 24-man playing squad on Tuesday and then his final team for the Auckland clash on Thursday.
Burgess has won 32 caps for Australia and can be expected to nudge out Nick Phipps in the team that beat South Africa 39-20 in the Tri-Nations opening round.
In a further boost for the Wallabies fullback Kurtley Beale has declared himself fit to face the All Blacks after he injured himself playing against the Springboks.
Beale returned to team training last Friday and reported he had gone well over the weekend.
“I think all the time we’ve given it has helped me out,” he told AAP on Friday. “It feels really good.
“There’s been a lot of physio work and it’s coming along really well.”
I am really looking forward to this game.
Luke is best 2nd choice…but a good second choice when he is on fire but he at times is inconsistent.
Early predictions for the match??
I think it will be All Blacks to win comfortably…
