Returning Springboks Wynand Olivier and Bjorn Basson will be amongst the four new faces in the Vodacom Blue Bulls backline for their Absa Currie Cup clash against the Pumas in Nelspruit on Friday.
Official Bulls site
Olivier and Basson, who will play in his first Currie Cup match for the Vodacom Blue Bulls, recovered from niggles that prevented their participation in last weekend’s match against the Lions and has been included in the side, along with Marnitz Boshoff and Jurgen Visser.
Both were on the bench last weekend and Boshoff will earn a first start for the province he captained at u.21-level last year.
In another move, coach Pine Pienaar moved Zane Kirchner to outside centre and handed the number 15 jersey to Visser, who played in that position against Western Province two weeks ago.
Jano Vermaak will also make his Vodacom Blue Bulls debut since transferring from the Golden Lions during the week.
“It is a new backline, but one that I am really excited about,” Vodacom Blue Bulls coach Pine Pienaar said.
“We are happy to welcome Jano to our midst and I know he will make a massive contribution in our long climb to the top four. Jurgen has an attacking mindset and I would expect him to play accordingly and Marnitz deserve a chance after being on the bench in the first four matches.”
Pienaar was also happy with Olivier and Basson’s return.
“They are international players and proven at this level. They will make a massive difference,” Pienaar said.
“The Pumas have shown that big names mean nothing to them and are a very tough nut to crack. We will have to play our best rugby of the season for the full 80 minutes if we want to achieve victory,” he said.
Pienaar also named Vodacom Blue Bulls u.21-players Arno Botha and Louis Fouché on the bench, as well as regular Vodacom Cup captain, Gerrit-Jan van Velze.
Stephan Dippenaar, Stefan Watermeyer, Francois Brummer, Lohan Jacobs, Derick Kuün and Fudge Mabeta fall out of the match 22.
The Vodacom Blue Bulls team is:
Jurgen Visser, Akona Ndungane, Zane Kirchner, Wynand Olivier, Bjorn Basson, Marnitz Boshoff, Jano Vermaak, CJ Stander, Dewald Potgieter (c) , Deon Stegmann, Juandré Kruger, Flip van der Merwe, Werner Kruger, Chiliboy Ralepelle, Dean Greyling.
Replacements: Gary Botha, Rossouw de Klerk, Gerrit-Jan van Velze, Arno Botha, Dustin Jinka, Louis Fouché, Francois Venter
Suddenly there is an experienced look and feel to the Blue Bulls backline!
It is also better to have Marnitz Boshoff at flyhalf rather than Francois Brommer… in fact I see Louis Fouche is on the bench and Brommer is out of the match 22 in total. Certainly looks like the coaching staff now shares my dimm view on Brommer.
Now all I hope for is that the Blue Bulls give due attention to and plan better for contesting better at the breakdowns!
Oh, and a special welcome to Jano Vermaak!
With the Puma’s losing to the Leopards, tells you something about their current form. Bulls should walk this.

Pumas lost by 1 point to the Sharks and ran the Lions bloody close…
Last year the Pumas beat the Bulls in Nelspruit.
No easy game in the Currie Cup, not one!
@ grootblousmile:
cANT BELIEVE i SAY THE bULLS WILL WIN AND YOU SAY NO!!! 😉
5@ 4man:
I don’t say the Blue Bulls will lose…
I say there is no easy game in this year’s Currie Cup.

You were intimating….see your post #4……toemaar, ek gee jou net n harde tyd. Tough day today on the markets….the only certainty is to go short on Swiss Franc and I made 2.5% return on my total capital in 5 hours. But Aussie$ NZ$ Canadian $ are all dicking around and not doing what they should, so just below break even for this month. I have 3 trades running short on all of these Aussie $, NZ $ and Sterling. The US$ is very bullish in trade.

I was rather intimating the opposite in comment No 1, but warning against complacency in Comment 4.
Jy moet mooooi lees, ou ballie!
My dad used to say the same thing about betting on horses and playing the Stock Markets…. “Gambling is a game for Kings and Cnuts… and I’m neither!”
Hehehe
He was conservative in his way of thinking, which made him a wise and wealthy man.
Can Jano play for the Bulls? I think he played already for the Lions, so is it possible/legal, to play for 2 teams in one season?
9@ superBul:
I’m not sure how the regulations about player movements works in respect of the Currie Cup. Different rules for different Competitions, I guess.
He’s been named in the Blue Bulls side for the Pumas, as a starter, so surely he conforms to the rules. The big thing is also that the Lions have signed off on his move, so it’s all official. The Blue Bulls won’t contravene the rules, of that I’m sure.
Jano DID play in the 1st month of this year’s Currie Cup for the Lions, in fact he and Plum were officially named Coach and Player of the first month in the competition.
@ grootblousmile:
14 TRANSFER OF PLAYERS FROM ONE PROVINCES TO ANOTHER PROVINCE
14.1 The Player Status, Player Contracts and Player Movement Regulations (www.sarugby.co.za) should be read in conjunction with clause 14.
14.2 A player may not be transferred more than once during a specific competition.
OK then it looks right for him to play. Think he will be a big asset to the Bulls. Something new to get used to for me, bringing in a outsider , we are more used to slow entry into our teams. But Jano is someone special.
11@ superBul:
Marvelous…. as legal as is possible!
Sien, die Bulle jaag nie kak aan nie, behalwe op die Curiebeker velde….
@ grootblousmile:
Amateurs shouldn’t “play” the stock markets, your Dad is right in that context. But there are plenty of professional brokers who do extremely well in the stock and FOREX markets. I don’t trade on the FTSE, I don’t know enough about the companies there. But FOREX trading is a completely different animal and if you stick to the basic rules and only trade when your check list of 5 things all indicate it is ok to trade, then you will be successful. I made 3.5% of Capital today on Sterling and Swiss Franc and lost 1% on the Swiss Franc/Japanese Yen combo (if I had put my stop loss further away that would have also been good). I consult charts and trade what is in front of me and I follow a particular FOREX news programme as there are certain things that can make the market go haywire. If my growth curve continues as it is I will average 6% of Capital PER MONTH this year. Compound or capitalise that over 1 year and you will see the potential. You have to be prepared to undergo intensive “on the job” training though as you trade live, for about 6 months.
