Sharks looseforward Jean Deysel has been added to the Springbok training squad in Cape Town because of injuries. Deysel, who made his Test debut against Italy on the 2009 end-of-year tour, joined the group on Wednesday.
The 26-year-old has been called in as cover because of injuries to looseforwards Juan Smith, Schalk Burger, Willem Alberts and Duane Vermeulen.
Meanwhile Springbok management has moved to correct reports that Jacques Nienaber had been added to the Springbok management team for the Rugby World Cup.
The highly successful Stormers defensive coach is assisting the team on a short-term basis.
He will shortly return to his duties as part of the Western Province management team for the Currie Cup.
Well I for one am pleased, I think Deysel is underrated, he has had a bit of injury bad luck. Great tackler, fast, always takes the ball over the gain line and as strong as anybody on the field.
I don’t think Duane Vermeulen will play Boks this year, he wont be back from injury in time to have gelled with the team. Pity, he has been our best no 8 this season and WP felt his loss last Saturday.
