This is not a spitefull article, nor is it one to show any insensitivity from my side.
We experience so many disasters in the world and in my eyes the biggest one so far in 2011 was the Japannese tragedy. Japan will for years live in doubt about radio-active radiation.
Like I said, I am not an expert on disasters.
While I am busy typing this, in the background I hear the sound of a tribute to the Crusaders on Supersport. Maybe I will change my mind during this typing session.
What I would like to know is why nothing is mentioned about the disaster the Australian people of Queensland suffered? Is it too far back?
There were also lives lost, but the sentiment of the world of rugby seems to lie with only the Crusaders. Not a single program was aired about the Queensland loss.
Tell me, why would this be the case?
Australia Associated Press stated – The 2011 season has been the stuff of dreams for both teams and the final promises to be a spectacle worthy of a fairytale finish. Queensland have had to overcome six seasons in the Super Rugby cellar and early-year floods while the nomadic Crusaders have defied belief by winning through a season played on the road in the wake of Christchurch’s devastating earthquake.
The 2010–2011 floods killed 35 people in Queensland. As at 26 January 2011, an additional nine people were still missing. The state’s coal industry was particularly hard hit. The Queensland floods were followed by the 2011 Victorian floods which saw more than fifty communities in Western and Central Victoria also grapple with significant flooding.
Earthquakes occur in New Zealand as the country forms part of the Pacific Ring of Fire, which is geologically active. About 20,000 earthquakes, most of them minor, are recorded each year.[1] About 200 of these are strong enough to be felt.[2] As a result, New Zealand has very stringent building regulations.
Sympathy even.
@ Pam Anderson:
Pam thats why i feel the Reds deserve/the competition needs, a new winner. I amalso fed up with the special treatment the NZ guys are getting. It is as if the whole world owes NZ. Fark them they must earn it, our respect.
Agree! Gatvol of the Kiwi’s!
But, as this is a RUGBY site, the Saders played a lot of rugby on the road. Played QF in NZ, travelled to CT for SF, then back to Aus for Final, only to lose by 5. That deserves respect. Doesn’t matter how you look at it.
