The Springboks Rugby World Cup training camp had to be cancelled on Monday as the Springbok team management forgot to account for the busniess end of the Super Rugby competition.
The SA Rugby Union said in a statement on Monday that Bok coach Peter de Villiers had called off a national planning camp, the team’s third, due to potential Super Rugby commitments.
Three South African teams — the Stormers, the Bulls and the Sharks –remain in contention for a place in the Super Rugby playoffs, heading into the final first-round matches this weekend.
This week’s fixtures, on the cards months in advance, have resulted in the third planning session, scheduled to start on Sunday, being called off.
De Villiers nonetheless said the second national planning camp, a two-day session which ended on Monday, had achieved all its objectives.
“Getting together after Saturday’s tough Super Rugby matches, with winners and losers in the same room, presented its challenges,” said De Villiers.
“But the players were quickly on the same page and focussing on the national cause for a few hours.”
Thirty seven players joined team management in the second planning camp which involved a series of meetings in preparation for the coming international season.
“There were different components to the camp and we had medical and logistical sessions as well some required photo-shoots,” De Villiers said.
“But the most important part was spent on technical rugby matters so that our planning will be fully in place for when the international season kicks off next month.”
The Springbok season, geared towards the defence of their global title at the World Cup in New Zealand in September, kicks off with a Tri-Nations Test against Australia in Sydney on July 23.
“I’m very happy with our planning to date,” De Villiers said.
“We are at a more advanced stage in our preparations than we have ever been before and I have to thank the franchises for releasing players for these short camps to help make it possible.”
Flok, waaraan het hulle gedink toe hulle die kampie beplan het?
gbs
maybe the (original) author of this article (saw it on news24) should be sacked!!
i had to read this article quite a few times before figuring out (and i’m not sure that i understand it correctly) that:
1. there was a SECOND training camp held THIS PAST WEEKEND (thus sunday 12/6 and monday 13/6)
and
that a THIRD session was planned for the COMING WEEKEND (sunday 19/6 and monday 20/6) which had to be cancelled because (at this stage) it looks like one or even 2 (depending of what happens between the tahs and brumbies) of our superrugby teams might be on their way to nz for the 1st play-offs, rather than being able to attend the camp
…
and yes, IF i understand it correctly then the person/people who planned this 3rd session made a huge f*ck-up because the chance was always there that one of our teams might end up playing a kock-out game in nz/aus!!
hopefully we’ll be able to get this planning session in somewhere between the end of the superrugby season and the start of the 3n!!

“and yes, IF i understand it correctly then the person/people who planned this 3rd session made a huge f*ck-up because the chance was always there that one of our teams might end up playing a KOCK-OUT game in nz/aus!!”
..
shouldve been kNock-out game!! 😀
ok, i had a quick look at the schedule for this year (just to see when all our teams were at home)
..
week 1 – 3 (18 feb till 5 march)
week 11, 12 (30 april – 7 may) … if i’m not mistaken, then the 1st planning session was in this time
week 17, 18 (11 june – 18 june) … session2 (12, 13 june)
..
now
i think the weeks in which sessions 1, 2 were held were in fact the only ones in which you couldve held the sessions … the problem is that the guy/s who planned session 3 didnt take into account that 1 or 2 teams might be on their way to nz/aus by sunday 19/6 .. call it a human error, a guy/s not thinking past their nose/s or not even able to think at all,
thing is
i wonder how many guys have actually seen this schedule beforehand,
and have not picked up on the fact that the last session is for the sunday after the league matches .. i’m thinking here senior captains (jsmit, matfield), consultants (rassie, hehehehe) etc 😆
..
anyway
wonder whether any of us wouldve picked up on that mistake if that schedule was placed on the site? 😀
Hello everyone, i am back in Hoedspruit.
This is something i will have to learn again , to read all comments before comenting. But for this one i will shoot from the hip, i must anounce my presence without fear. So here is what i feel.
The guy in question mustby my favorite coach, Peter.
So i will defend him , untill he “kots” on a jersey, especialy a Bulls one.
Back to my half pence on this issue, If Peter did not plan anything for this weekend he would have been called worst things(names), the Bulls looked dead and buriied, the Sharks are known faders , so any reasonable coach would have seen the probability that after this weekend all his Bok contenders were free.
