I’m only 2.92 points behind you…. that is basically ONE spot-on pick and ONE pick within 5 away, behind you….

  • 32

    30@ Blue Bird:
No, staying right here this weekend… the winter has hit here in all earnest…

  • 33

    @ grootblousmile:
Is that supposed to make me scared!! 😆

Btw, I had a mail from Puma, he has enjoyed his break. Both on the cruise and meeting old friends in Scotland.

  • 34

    33@ Blue Bird:
He should be back in Durban today… said he would be back this Thursday.

  • 35

    @ grootblousmile:
I remember how perishing cold it was in Pretoria and you guys do not have central heating!!

    What is that about!! 😯

  • 36

Ok have to get some excercie now….

    See you GBS

  • 37

    @ smallies72:
Sorry Smallies I missed that, glad you explained!!

  • 38

    35@ Blue Bird:
It simply never really gets below 0 degrees C enough to warrant Central Heating.

Today is cold though, and so has the last 2 days been.

Must be all of 6 or 8 degrees now, going to below zero in the nights.

The day in Pretoia was fine though, it was just as it got dark that it was cold. Not hard to bear 2 months of real winter per year, I suppose.

  • 39

Well the days are warm at least in winter there. My buddy in Graaf Reinet where we shoot springbok said they have had snow 4 times this year already….well, they are in the “Sneeuberge” and said we must come prepared. That means minus 10 at night and about 15 during the day unless the wind comes up….and the wind always comes up. I’ll do my normal trick, one bush jacket with an inner and one dustbin bag lining, thermal gloves and thermal beanie. I can never wear long johns…it feels weird, but denims are generally good enough and two pairs of army socks. The dustbin liner is amazing for keeping heat in and wind out, just like a wetsuit.

  • 41

    @ smallies72:
Smallies ek sien jy ken van! My probleem is wat ek kan saam bring van hieraf, die inner dustbin liners werk lekker, glo my, dit jarrrre terug geleer ken op die oop brug van skippe.

lemoene en winter jag gaan saam soos rugby kyk en rev vloek

OK I’ve picked the Bulls to win at Newlands, with Grant out of the picture and a resurgent lineout, the Bulls will probably have the upper hand and most of the ball. Be interesting to see how Butch goes at 10 opposite young Lambie. I believe Butch still has a lot to offer, but he must have a definite role. At WC 2007 he knew well before the time that he was the starting flyhalf and that focussed him and he was nice and relaxed and masterful throughout the tournament. In my opinion if they want to use him as a Utility back then he should not go. He would probably be used in the supposedly easier games and his petulance could cost us dearly. But in all fairness I’ll reserve judgement and see how he goes in the tri-nations and against Lambie this weekend.
World cups are won by good defenses. I would leave Flip in the mix for lock and take Danie as a backrow player (he is versatile enough to switch if needs be). Fullback, as much as it goes against the grain I think Steyn is our only option and whoever the backup is should be an experienced international player. Front row Barney to start at loosehead (replaced at half time or later by Mwatarira), bismarck and Mujati at tighthead (Mujati should also play tri nations now). Locks Victor and Bakkies (on emerging form) Andries backup for Vic. Backrow Alberts, Spies, Burger (there are lots for choice of backup players, I dont think Smith should go and the tri nations will show that) scrummie FDP….absolutely no question first name on the team sheet. Flyhalf I’m uncertain here, but would like to see Grant and Lambie being considered, Morne’ is incumbent. Centres pick themselves, Jean and Mossie wings JPP and Mvovo (if Mvovo doesnt get exposure in tri nations then not him) Basson in the mix and Ndungane in the mix (Habana must be dropped).

    @ smallies72:
My thermal handskoen vou terug as ek will skiet, dan sit ek hulle weer oor die hand, dis eintlik mittens, gekoop by Cape Union Mart in die Kaap so 25 jare terug.

    @ smallies72:

Guys, I have to break it to you…..Gortex is the way forward!!

    Breathability is the key!! 🙂

  • 49

Ek het altyd my mes saam….leatherman dan het ek sommer tools ook.
Carol, too bulky hey, we’ve got to move a lot in the Karoo when we hunt there. I have Goretex, but if I stick that stuff into my luggage I dont have much room left. I pack very lightly, but perhaps I’ll wear an allweather jacket which is old now, as it will defo ahve blood on by the end.

  • 50

    46@ Blue Bird:
What the fark is Gortex…. explain to a Saffa that is not used to cold conditions…

Damn, the Karoo can get cold in Winter at night… with no form of cloud cover above, the earth cools down very rapidly, the heat just escapes.

I’ll never forget, I was travelling one night, after midnight, from George to Pretoria, after a couple of days and nights where I’d burnt some serious midnight oil and when I hit the Karoo through Meirings pass from Oudtshoorn, the tiredness set in.

Was travelling in an old Bantam Bakkie and just could not keep awake… so it was head out of the window stuff to let the cold air hit you wide awake, followed by a quick few running laps around the Bakkie, pulled off next to the road, then battle on for 40 km or so until I had to repeat the whole process…

    Moer, it was cold!

  • 51

The other time which I really was cold was during Vasbyt on Officers Course, in the Drakensberg range… slept the one night in a wet sleeping bag, on a rocky ledge… had to get up every half an hour or so to rest… hehehe

  • 52

I tried to get into one of my Army Browns shirts, the Sunday before last, thought that would work well for the paintball game… somehow my chest (or is that possibly slightly below that) had outgrown it… hehehe

Luckily the Bosbaadjie still fits, so too the Boshoed with plenty of “Houding”…

Have all my army socks still and a few other items…and the Balsak, of course!

  • 53

    @ 4man:
Go and look, nowadays lightweight breathable clothing is as light as a feather and does not rustle unlike a bin liner!!
Quite vital for hunting I would imagine!

    @ grootblousmile:
Goretex is a membrane used in decent outdoor performance clothing. Keeps wet out and also lets persperation out, unlike a dustbin bag!! Hehheeh 🙂

  • 54

    53@ Blue Bird:
I seriously doubt whether we would get something like Gortex in SA. It is even a struggle to get something like longjohns…

  • 55

die koudste in my lewe was een dag op barkley oos tydens n rugby wedstryd -5 reen sleet en sneeu 10cm dik ek het gedog ek vrek ban die koue,ek het twee vingers gebreek en dit eers twee ure later agter gekom

  • 57

    56@ smallies72:
Nee flok, ek issie gebou vir koue nie… kan ookie slaap met enige klere aan nie, die goed draai altyd om mens vas, so winter of somer slaap ek soos Adam!

  • 59

    58@ smallies72:
Nee flok man, mens sit mos maar die Elektriese kombers op TURBO en gooi ‘n dik eendveer verekombers (duck down duvet) bo-oor die duvet… dan broei en teel mens soos hasies….

    Hehehe

  • 60

    @ grootblousmile:
You will have it there, I have no doubts…..in the ourdoor pursuits shops!

Longjohns, I will have to send you a pair from here!
