As the cold of Winter starts to really be felt on the Highveld, Lions Rugby have started a drive to collect blankets for those souls less fortunate than those of us here on Rugby Talk.
The collection will take place in earnest at the Lions – Sharks match this weekend.
Winter has officially arrived in Johannesburg, and if the first few days are anything to go by, we are in for a very cold few months. The Golden Lions Rugby Union would like to invite you to make a difference in someone’s life during the month of June by donating a blanket(s) to those in need.
On Saturday, 11 June 2011, the MTN Lions will be playing the Sharks at Coca-Cola Park at 4:05pm. Supporters of both teams are encouraged to bring blankets – old or new – for those in need and drop them off in one of the marked collection boxes situated around the stadium or with one of the volunteers.
For those who do not have any blankets to spare, volunteers will be walking around the stadium selling blankets for the needy for just R40 each and taking donations towards purchasing additional blankets.
All blankets will be donated to the various charities in the immediate vicinity of Coca-Cola Park where blankets are desperately needed for homeless and destitute children and adults.
For those who are unable to attend the match, blankets can be dropped off at the Golden Lions Rugby Union’s office between 8am and 4pm before Friday, 17 June 2011. The offices are situated at South Office Block, Johannesburg Stadium, 124 Van Beek Street, New Doornfontein. Alternatively, donations towards blanket purchases can be made to:
Ellispark Stadium (Pty) Ltd

Spare a thought for those who have nothing in this cold weather and open up your hearts and help make a difference.
And I can tell you it’s COLD here on the East Rand this fine Winter’s afternoon.
Talk about the homeless.
What’s the difference between an Estate Agent and a Catfish?
One’s a slimy, sh1t eating bottom dweller, and the other is a fish.
The scum of society methinks. Thieving individuals.
